General Discussion Thread IX

Sorry, some mistakes make things not clear I think, so I'll devellop a bit:

Rinaldo shopoffer three services.

  • The shop buys items from players at 60% of the market price.
  • The shop sells items to players at 80% of the market price (might go at higher prices for easy to sell items, like healing potions)
  • The shop pawn items for players (look at the thread at the precise service I offer)

So the shop buy at 60% to sell at 80%. That makes 20% profits on the amrket value of the item.

My questions are:

  1. Can my characters have access to these services with the same prices than any other characters? (which I call, standard prizes for the shop)
  2. Can a party, including one of my character, have access to these services?
  3. Can my characters have some favored prices? (Some few close friends of Rinaldo will likely have some).

If I answers my questions, here what I think. I am not a judge and partial to these questions, so I am not sure everyone will agree. (I should tell, I am sure there won,t be a concensus over my answers).

  1. The shop can offers the same service to the player's own character just as it was another character. That mean the services must be clear and no favor prices can ever apply to it.
  2. Yes, but the presence of the player's character who own the shop make that no favor price can be apply on any transaction and limits to the same service than if that character was alone.
  3. No favor price at all, no IC reason, whatever are they, can overrule that.

When I speak of clear rules, if I look at my thread, I have written:
Buying at 60% (cursed and evil items are never bought.)
Pawning at 60% - 5% per 3 month of pawning.

Selling have been written down, but as I've told, here my list of price I think to place:
  • 80% for most items bought from players at 60% of the price
  • 90% for easy to sell items bought from players at 60% of the price
  • 97,5% for items bought at 95% of their value with the help of the Trader class.
  • 95% for items bought at 90% of their value with the help of the Trader class.

It's start to be too complicated, so I would only allow buying and pawning service for my own characters and party including my own characters.

And, just to be sure, Rinaldo can do wathever he want with the shop, being the owner :)

The other question is, are there mundane items you don't have? (Such as masterwork weapons and such?)

Wait, you sell healing potions, so does this mean I could buy a +2 Longsword from your shop?

The shop is supposed to have a supply of spell component and few magical items (mainly low level scrolls and potions) to sell at all times. These items are sold at 100% of the market price and are there mainly to gives a reason why the business run and NEVER will anyone will be able to buy them at any other price (not even Rinaldo). It is mainly for flavor.

Rinaldo will buy anything that is related to magic. Anything that is a spell component (that have a value of 1 gp or more), a magical item or a masterwork item that can be enchanted can be bought by the shop. Other mundane items will never been bought or sold by the shop, nor would crused items or evil items (I speak by evil anything that need an evil creator or use magic with the evil descriptor).

Yeah. If you want, for flavor, you can buy anything from my shop at the amrket price, but that doesn't affect my shop. If I have it in stock, you can buy at the shown price any item I have in stock, that might include at some times healing potions (which I expect to become my main sellers) or a longsword +2. But it won't be for the moment, as I have none in stock at lower price (which mean bought from another player at 60% of the price or with the trader merchant class ability). I'll keep a link to all post where I buy and sell an item for more transparency.

I see someone *caugh*KO*caugh* has been bumping up proposals :)

I know I have 2 that are nearly passed that need another judge to look at them.

With Erekose13 on board, I'm sure he will look at them.

By the way, Bront, before you leave, take a look at your mails.

Yup I'll take a look through those proposals as I can.

Bront I'll help judge your new adventure (watch for an email from me too).

One of my players in D2: The Lost Manor was forced to withdraw due to real life issues. He gave notice, and played out his character exit stage left IC.

I've just finished calculating his XP for the final month, and it brought the character to a grand total of 911. The character also hasn't been paid. Money was promised, but not exchanged before the character departed.

It sucks having to withdraw. So too does not being paid. I'd like to get permission to grant him a one time, never to be repeated 'Good Luck and Thanks for Playing' bonus of 90 XP. It would be nice to not to have to start the next adventure (which would be the character's third attempt) just shy of the next level (2nd).

I should know.

It was all calculated and posted monthly, with a breakdown of the bits. There is a copy in the first post (with the exception of May's XP). He was, is actually leading the other 1st levelers, which wouldn't make the pill any more easy to swallow.
