You can use the rules from the SRD:

A wizard can also add a spell to her book whenever she encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard’s spellbook. [...]

In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to the spell’s level × 50 gp.

I knew the first, but didn't know the second.

Is there any institution (or independant wizard) in Orussus to learn any low-level spells? Rilithorne, a 9th level wizard is most likely know a few spells and is known to sell his service, most likely he would sell his spell, but his spell list have never been clearly identified (he know web and magic missile...)

Also, do I have to roll a spellcraft check for each spell learn (I think yes) and how do I have to proceed?

That's a good idea too, having it removed by a regular "good" healing spell. I like that and will tell the players if they want it removed thats what they have to do. OOC of course my cleric wouldn't give a poop - the more people he can scar and hurt the better. MUhahahaha!

DerHauptman-Out!

DerHauptman - I like the idea of the scars. I think this could lead to some interesting role playing and anyone not wanting a scarred character should be able to get it removed, even if they have to pay...haha the more fun for Jik'tu.

I'd say the Library of Orussus fits the bill, here.

I believe we established that you can take 10 on those rolls. In case you need to roll, use an online dice roller, such as Invisible Castle, and post the rolls here.

Yes. We did decide wizards could take 10 when learning new spells when not adventuring. Scrolls may be purchased at standard prices in Orussus. Iggy has done that anyway, then copied them into his spellbook at the standard price.

Potentialy, if they sell spells. However, access to the Library isn't free either. I know one of my characters has a lifetime membership there that he payed 100 gold for.

Yes, that is indeed the case. Besides, the costs are harsh enough without making the poor wizard fail his check. Any wizard who keeps his spellcraft up reasonably with his level should never have a problem with learning new spells by taking a 10.

I just saw this in the Recompilation Thread:

Oh man! I hope this isn't true--I asked if anyone knew anything else about the Chromatic Order or Medibaria before I went and did my big expansion and nobody told me about this :(

It was a rather minor addition.

Essentially, my proposal was the idea of a fourth person who helped found the order, who was essentially the first learner, but then stricken from the records due to a dispute with the other three over whether or not what he did could be called magic. Later on, a professor found a book he had written, and started teaching a single class. I forget what happened to that, but then those he taught went out and sometimes encountered bards from Nobius, who took note of it and began studying it themselves. It ended with a note mentioning that most learners now come from the Nobius college, as the bards there took more interest in it than the Chromatic Order.

Ah, whew. I thought that it was going to say that they actually taught Learners or something :heh: Yup, I can say with utmost certainty that having a Learner kicked out for not practising true magic fits in perfectly with the Academy's demeanour (heck, they don't even think sorcerers practise true magic) :) It might work even better if the first Learner was once the most promising apprentice of Mordrue (the diviner guy) or Sice (the power-loving guy) and was abandoned by his own mentor and fellows for his views.
