Is there an established set of dueling protocol within the city? Not necessarily the mechanics of it OOC but the flavor of it in game.
Just curious about it cause in all my games its a big thing, nobility protecting their honor and all that. IMG duels between nobles are ritualized and rarely lethal but a spectacle none the less.
Even have some protocol for lower classes conducting their own duels as well, which are not as ritualized, more brutal and often mostly impromptu and lethal. I have always assumed that even a common farmer had a certain amount of honor and dignity to protect.
I never really go round to deciding how a noble and commoner (or an adventurer) would settle a dispute over honor.
However, this is not ren-Europe the adventuring class is hardly a common farmer and has access to weapons and armor and knows how to use them which was perhaps the reason commoners didn't duel with nobility - not quite fair because of the training/equipment difference.
Has this been made up or no? I read the part about the watch breaking up duels and such but this seems silly to me they can't be everywhere and the nobility would likely want the opportunity to defend their honor. I see why we'd want to say this to quell non-consensual bouts between players but what about NPC's.
The duels could even be done outside the city proper - meet me at the abandoned church on the road to XXXXX at daybreak tomorrow. Wasn't that in the Three Musketeers - LOL!
I'm not looking for a lesson in dueling here just has it been established what the protocol is in the city here in game. I'm sure someone here knows a ton about real dueling etiquette but I'm not asking bout that. I think it would be neat to have and add a lot to the city's flavor.
Reason I ask is that in Velmont's tournament (road to Fallon) I think there is a chance there might be one soon. I hope!!! I know he can do what he wants and thats fine with me just wondering if there is some background out there for the city. Perhaps even for the setting in general that I could look at. My character is not a noble and won't know the rules of course so its just for me the player.
