Um, question. From the people who have completed adventures (not sure how many people that is, but): How many adventures have you been in? How long has each taken?

Hmm. Strangely, I'v completed more as a DM than as a player, but I'll assume your asking about the player end.

The only completed adventure that I've participated in is Manzanita's M2: "The Search for Goblin HQ." It began 9/22/04 and concluded 6/3/05. Almost 9 months, and a great adventure for which Manzanita deserves many kudos!

I've been in one adventure in LEW that concluded without being completed due to the DM disapearing. It was entitled "Of Eggs And Desires."

I'm also in 3 adventures currently: "Dance of Souls", "Hired Hands", and "Murder is the Pits".

One lasted 10 months, another 7 months, and newest one 2 months. And one seems to have died after about 8 months of general inactivity.
Wow, you had one that was completed in 2 months without dying? Or is it 2 months so far (ie you're still in it)?

Both would satisfy my interest. I'm trying to get a feel for the range of and typical length of a PbP game. I'm in a number right now of a variety of styles but have never completed one. I still consider myself new, though, so.

I imagine DM disappearance is a common source of ended adventures. Is sticking to a game tougher for a DM? This has happened in three or four of my games, which is a fairly high percentage.

Nope, I was the DM. It was completed succesfully in two months. I did warn everyone it was a simple idea that would be short... sort of along the lines of a Dungeon Magazine side-treck.

I've had better luck than that in LEW. Outside LEW, in the general PBP forum, they pretty much all ended that way. Since my character in "Eggs and Desires" is now having fun in Kahuna Burger's "Murder is the Pits" and since I hate to lose a character to something as nebulous as DMs disapearing, I now only play here.

"Attack on the Bandit Camp" was the one mentioned that completed in two months. My other completed adventure was "The Burning Tower" which ran from October 25th 04 to December 21st 04. Wierd! That one seemed *much* longer than Bandit Camp. I suspect the pacing was different.

I'm also currenty running "The Faerie Woods" which has been going on since December of '04 and is still going, so they aren't all so short.

As Patlin said, it was a short and not-quite-as-bloody-as-I-first-though adventure, and my wizard is now 3rd level and still alive. ;)

One of my characters is currently on an adventure, that has lasted about two months now, and also seems to have a pretty (=very) fast pace.

I don't think anyone is going to break Patlin's new record anytime soon though. :D

Gah! 98 XP short of level 4! Any chance for an Ashnar-only short vignette? :p

Ashnar Has been in two completed Adventures, the aforementioned M2 and the Bandit Camp.
Semabin... errr, he had no completed adventures so far. While we're at that, where the hell is GnomeWorks?

On another note, I completely forgot about the Taking 10 debate on learning spells, and promptly rolled on Invisible Castle. :heh: It was decided to allow take ten, if I recall correctly?

Nurlan has completed two adventures, the first two in Manzanita's well-crafted Monemvassia series. M1 took 6 months (March-Sept '04), while M2, as Patlin already noted, took 8.5 months (Sept '04 -- June '05). Between them they had enough action to get him to 4th level, 15 months after he first showed up in Orussus.

Jo Guilan has only played in one adventure, A Tidy Profit, and he neither started nor finished it. There were at least three stages of player recruitment for that one, and there were several departures along the way, both in-character (roleplayed exits) and OOC (player goes AWOL). Overall the adventure ran from Dec '03 to June '04 when it was aborted (so I guess it wasn't really a completed adventure, although Jo Guilan's involvement in it was completed). The phase my character played in ran from Jan '04 to April '04.

Well, at least I certainly did. :uhoh:

I was in Treasure of Tierra Padre with one of Xael's characters. It started in June of '04, ran for 4.5 months, then stalled when 3 characters dropped out. In game, the action moved back to the RDI thread, where several new characters (including Xael's) were recruited. We then went back to the Treasure of Tierra Padre thread and finished up in another 7 months. So, the whole thing wound up just a couple of weeks short of lasting a whole year.

I have characters in 2 adventures now, Curse of House Thimbrall (which has been going on since April, or 4 months now), and Festival of Halina (since June, or 2 months). The same character that was in Tierra Padre is the one in Festival of Halina. The handoff between the two adventures was interesting because Festival of Halina "formed up" in front of the Inn the day after PBartender released our characters from Tierra Padre! I'd expected Halina to take a few days to get started, and was caught flat-footed without xp or loot being awarded from Tierra Padre. Bront was pretty gracious about letting me edit my character sheet to "level up" during the first few days of Halina, and the two DMs handled the loot distribution in-game in a clever way that made ENWorld seem that much more like a real place, with couriers riding forth between the RDI and the caravan my character was in.

I think the record for longest adventure in Living EnWorld is probably held by Heroes of the Vesper Peaks, DM'd by Creamsteak. It started in April of '04 and is still running as of a couple of weeks ago, or 16 months and counting.
