Wow. I just finished writing up some stuff on Rheim as a potential sister city given the potential differences.
It doesn't make sense to name a sister city so similarly--it would be confusing and lead to mix-ups ;) I'd suggest just making the changes.

Oh, and Solange, Earling has slavery too, though it is regimented and based on repaying debts.

Thanks, but that's not quite what I wanted. I was looking to be an escaped slave turned paladin of freedom.

You definitely want Rheim/Riem. They just finished an adventure there (once upon a Rheim) that, if I guess correctly from not having read the adventure but knowing the PC who organised it, involved freeing slaves and fleeing Rheim.

Which one was that? I'll go read it.

I feel like I'm part of the Who's on First gag--the adventure is actually called "Once Upon a Rheim" ;)

R: There was an adventure once upon a Rheim...
S: What was it called?
R: Once Upon a Rheim
S: I know it was in Rheim, but what was it called

Ooh, now that you mentioned the Academy, I had a once-over your character sheet. It may be well to know that the youngest admitee in the memory of the Academy was 11, and it was basically unheard of (this established in aTfL in 2005 and mentioned again in Rinaldo gets Schooled--she only got in at 11 due to being the greatest prodigy in the generation and the descendant of one of the three founders).

I'd put him in the Academy at 13 or 14 if you want him to a very early admitee. Notice also that when you picked the age of 16, you actually picked an age that is not technically legal for a Wizard by the standard SRD rules (15 + 2d6), though I don't think we mind in general if you don't use that rule. However, I did base the age restrictions of the Academy on that. If he's pretty fast, he could be a 17-year-old who graduated with the full Wizard's Degree in 4, starting at 13. That would still be something students would talk about when they were thinking of the youngest graduates.
Ah, I see. I had somehow managed to completely fail to notice the existence of the starting age rules. Entering at 13 and finishing at 17 or 18 probably fits the way I've been roleplaying him better, now that he's not just a name on a character sheet, so I'm definitely willing to make that change. Judges, should I do that now, or wait for a next level, or just leave it alone?

And thanks, RA, for the pointer to A Teacher for Laynie. Do you mind if I take some notes for the wiki when I read it? I can't promise any kind of thoroughness, but something is better than (almost) nothing.

In Rheim, slavery is normal, but in Reim slavery is abolished.

Please, don't you think retconning spelling errors has gone far enough? We know that there is Rheim (where slavery is practiced) and Riem (where it isn't). I strongly oppose any attempt to create Reim, with or without slavery, by either proposal or sneaky orthographic trickery.

I agree with Orsal. Reim or Rheim or Rhiem or Rhino or whatever, let's leave it like it is. I like Bront's idea of making them sister cities. It's definitely not unheard of for two sister cities to be similarly named.

El Jefe, while he was compiling the Locations thread, tried to resolve contradictions with creative geography and fun things like that rather than rendering whatever the discrepancy was as 'incorrect' and striking it from the record. Let's do more creation and less destruction, eh?
