General Discussion

If I counted right, you have five unofficial "I would probably vote yes" comments. I think we will create an "At Home" category/line on the Adventures page when the first thread is built. To do it right, that "game" will need to point to a wiki page instead that lists multiple "Home threads" in the 'Playing the Game' area of the forums.

The last hurdle is how to mark the "looking for a new game" characters differently than the "Sitting at home, on vacation" characters that are not interested. I suppose adding "on vacation" to their class line in the hidden wiki block would be enough of a marker.

So, technically and unofficially, it can be done. Implementation: maybe soonish. An official proposal would probably speed the process and hash out a few details. It also leaves a "this is what we intended" marker to point back to later.

I started to post this in the proposal thread for "home threads," then realized this is really a broader question. I think this is a wonderful idea to have home threads, which I am now going to overcomplicate. How broadly can we allow the "lifestyle" interpretations to be made? For instance, I'm considering bringing in a priestess, and giving her some status in the local heirarchy. I would want the lifestyle purchase to reflect rising status, rather than possessions per se. At 100 gp, she gets an austere room in the dormitory. At 1000 gp, she is a recognized figure in the local church, with a set of rooms and privileges with respect to the temple library or other amenities. At 10,000 gp, she holds a high rank (perhaps the #2 position for Venza) and is well-known among local worshippers.

None of this has any effect on gameplay. Does anyone see a problem and/or should there be a formal proposal on it?

Personally, I think that's a grand idea. Perhaps in your "home thread" you can have someone run a mini-game reflecting her promotion for the recognition of her accomplishments, etc. From how I understood it, these are the sorts of things that we should use the "home thread" for, not just for when the PC is within their personal set of four walls.

I agree that the sort of character development you propose, mfloyd, would work quite well in this sort of character thread. It does bring up the difficulty of status and social position in regards to characters but I think the combination of roleplay and the cost of living mechanic works wonderfully for this (at least, in theory. We'll see how it works in practice).

I've already brought up the idea of hiring servants with the 'funds' provided by cost of living. Satin Knights commented that he felt the limit should be at half the value (so at Wealthy 2.5 gp could be 'spent' on hiring a number of servants). This could also simulate low-level priests under your authority.

I don't think it really necessitates a proposal thread since all I am asking about is a purely role playing related aspect of the game, and ultimately even without the approval of the judges if a player wanted to have a social area for his LPF character he could just create a thread in the Playing the Game area Prefix it with the normal Pathfinder Title and then invite his friends and their characters from Living Pathfinder to come Role Play in said thread with him.

True - one could do that.

I am just asking if it might not be more prudent to go ahead and get this system sanctioned within the Living Pathfinder Organization so that it has continuity within the game instead of being separate and distinct from the game so to speak. I.E. this way it will actually impact the character development of those characters in a very real way that is accepted by the judges instead of being something done outside of the realms of LPF.

But if you want it officially sanctioned then I think a Proposal thread for an official vote is in order. The reason for this is because I *hate* it when a lot of good discussion gets buried in this General Discussion thread around a topic we might want to look back on in a year to remember why we voted for or against.

It is much easier to find the discussions related to things like this if they have dedicated proposal threads. General Discussion should be for quick questions, a bit of feedback, etc. Anything that you expect to get multiple responses on with in-depth conversation should get its own thread in my opinion. Burying it in General Discussion just makes it harder to find this information later.

Thanks DalkonCladwin

My fault really I should have posted here first. Just after three hours of reading and getting the character updated I wanted to post his update.

Hi to everyone and although I would like to come back and play I may not be as able to post like before, RL is not my bff. We are more like siblings that get on each others nerves. So I'm thinking just playing/world building to start and maybe DM after I get a feel for my posting rhythm.

Shouldn't be on now but can't sleep.

I get to blame the Avengers for my late night. But welcome back!

I was hoping to get the opinion of some of the members of the LPF community. I have been hmming and hawing about whether or not I should retire Veniarus. Veniarus was kind of my first foray into the Living Pathfinder Campaign Setting, and while I am happy with the friendships he has made I am kind of disapointed with the direction I was forced to take with him. A direction that I didn't really want to take him in initially.

What I mean by this was that originally my back story had it that Veniarus was supposed to be a socially awkward introvert and that it was through his Eidolon that he was able to communicate with others in the world. However due to some concerns about the intellect level as well as the charisma level of an Eidolon I was forced to change that approach so that Veniarus was no longer an Introvert but instead an extrovert. This unfortunately had the side effect of forcing Veniarus into a mold that was not where I had originally intended for him to go.

Thus I am now confronted with the question of whether or not to retire Veniarus and start over with a different character whom I can actually mold the background around properly and get the right type of balance for the character in such a way as I will actually enjoy the character.

Despite her rougher edges, I do really enjoy Fae'shiel. Though it has yet to be seen what effect her soon to be obtained Blackblade will have on that enjoyment level. However I hope it won't be too horrid of a problem.

That said I really would like to hear as many opinions on this as possible.
