General Discussion

The same issue can be used for witch hexes. Which, I would feel uncomfortable with having an Ability focus (Hexes), as every witch would use it to boost her DC for her hexes. I have seen it broken down to Ability focus(Evil eye) in a char-op forum on paizo.

My own (admittedly low-level) experience with alchemists leads me to think it might be unwise to allow a single Ability Focus feat to modify all bombs. Consider that around 6-8 level, the alchemist gets the ability to lob up to 3 bombs in a single round, and also gains access to a large number of different bomb types (including sonic and force damage, two things that bypass most immunities). Improving the alchemist's ability to overcome SR and the Reflex saves to avoid splash damage actually has a disproportionate effect on their ability to sling damage and debuffs.

Granted, there are limits (they can't lob that many bombs that many times, and their defensive options are more limited than, say, a sorcerer or wizard lobbing comparable amounts of damage around). But I think a house rule of 1 Ability Focus/bomb might be wise.

You're probably right, mfloyd. I think the best argument to be made against that would be the relatively limited amount of bombs an alchemist has, but I can see the logic behind requiring a different Ability Focus for each of type of bomb.

I want to ask if a Judge can take a look at Marcus Cole's character sheet (link in my sig). It shows his cestus does damage of 1d4+1...shouldn't that be 1d4+2 for his STR mod? I didn't want to touch it until I had someone official take a look.

Danke!

It's at +1 because it's listed as an off-hand weapon (half STR bonus). However, off-hand only counts if you're two-weapon fighting, in regards to the second strike. It seems like you're using the cestus as your main attack when you get stuck in melee, so it doesn't count as an off-hand, and it should be +2.

The 'Special' note lists the cestus as being on his off-hand. Str damage for weapons in the off-hand is x .5

merfolk have been the main underwater race since early on in LPF and I kinda think that using aquatic elves would detract from that.

GE's comment in DC's "Blast from the Past" thread sort of triggered my thoughts, but they weren't really applicable to that thread, so I thought I'd move them here.

Has anyone ever thought about running a merfolk-centric game for LPF? I know we don't have many active merfolk (given IVV's absence, I'm only aware of Arianna), so obviously running a game with an all-merfolk party isn't really an option, but I do think it would be nice to have a game which fleshed out their place in E'n a bit. At the moment, it doesn't seem like much has been done in that regard, and partially as a result, the two merfolk characters I've seen in play have been *very* different in their take on merfolk culture. I think tengu have a similar need, too.

Just a thought off the top of my head. Given our recent discussions about races in E'n, it would be nice to flesh out the unconventional ones that already are in play. Maybe I'll have time to run such a game in the future, but at the moment I'm saving my energy for Audra's adventure. Working on my thesis doesn't help, either... :p

Aquatic adventures suck. It's just one of those axioms that all nerds understand, like how odd-numbered Trek movies are terrible.

I guess I've inadvertently called my nerd credentials into question. ;)

Although actually, I was thinking more along the lines of an adventure that involved merfolk but wasn't strictly aquatic.

"Help, my merfolk daughter came onto the surface in an act of rebellion and now she's missing."

"Help, the merfolk ambassador trying to set up trade with us drylanders is extorting me."

That sort of thing.

"Help, my merfolk daughter has fallen in love with a land-lubber, and the sea witch has stolen her voice in return for giving her legs so she can be with him but she really belongs down here with me so she can inherit the kingdom . . ."
