General "Lost" thoughts

Could lost be following that formula. We know Walt has some special powers maybe he is creating all this.

One early idea I did have was that the island and everything on it came into being the instant Walt figured he was gonna die so his subconscious created a place for him to land :)

I find it interesting that while everyone on the island calls the big guy "Hurley," Locke calls him "Hugo." The big guy told Jack in an earlier episode (Raised By Another) that Hurley is just a nickname and tells him his real name, but I don't recall him ever telling anyone else. And Jack isn't the type to divulge anyone's secrets. Sawyer, while reading the messages to be sent on the raft with them (Exodus Part 1), reads that someone on the island is leaving his millions of dollars to his mom. "Who is Hugo?" he asks.

Did I miss something? Locke keeps saying "Hugo" and Hurley hasn't said, "Dude, how do you know my name?" How does Locke know Hurley's real name? Maybe it's a clue that Locke knows who Hurley was because Hurley owns the box company where Locke worked.

Why do you think Hurley is keeping his real name secret? They've been there for 44 days, of which we've seen - considering things like commercial breaks and flashbacks - what, ten hours? Less, probably. There'd have been countless opportunities for it to come up in conversation, or for someone to notice it on the passenger manifest...

It's not necessarily that he's keeping his name a secret. If someone's name is Allen James but everyone calls him "A.J." that doesn't mean he's keeping his name a secret. But if someone starts calling him Allen, it makes you wonder how that person knows his name.

But Hurley has made the point that no one knows that the name everyone knows him by is just a nickname, that no one (except Jack) knows that his real name is Hugo.

On the point about the passenger manifest, Hurley was the guy who was checking the passenger manifest.

I remember clearly an episode where Hurley tells Jack his real name, without any reluctance or effort to hide anything. Don't know why he wouldn't have told Locke just as easily, and the two have hung out plenty.

You're making too much of it... Remember the death of the pilot, in (like) Episode 2? Charlie, Jack, and Kate were the only ones who knew, as no one else was present. We never saw any of them mention it, yet at some later date, Boone (IIRC) mentions it. Pretty much the same thing happened with the polar bear, although John/"Sawyer" was in on that one, too.

So, in short, stuff gets transmitted off-camera. It isn't necessarily suspicious.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but...

Hurley's numbers are: 4 8 15 16 23 42

Subtracting each number from the one after it, you get: 4 7 1 7 19

4+7+1+7=19
