General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

A question for the old farts like me who were there during the original theatrical release of Star Wars in 1977: Do you remember, during the Cantina sequence, an alien who drank his beverage from the top of his head? (and possibly burped). Or is that from another movie, or just my fertile imagination acting up?
I do not remember that.

There are characters drinking through straws in the background whist another character is in the foreground. If you were very young you might have confused the perspective and thought you saw a character drinking from the top of its head.

I like this video very much.
Nice. Thanks for sharing.

One thing I find interesting is his omission of GL’s swapping out of middle-aged Anakin’s Force ghost for young Anakin’s Force ghost at the end of RotJ. That’s evidence that GL views Anakin and Vader as different people. (And yet Vader telling Luke that he is his father says the opposite.)

While I agree that the scene where Luke removes his father’s helmet is a powerful one, Anakin’s deathbed repentance has never sat well with me. Him getting to manifest as a Force ghost with his old masters feels unearned (especially since GL established in the prequels that Force ghost manifestation has to be learned, and there’s no evidence that Anakin ever learned it.)

I know the video maker chose to ignore the novels etc, but one thing I really like from the RotS novel is how much it expands on Anakin’s motivations. It really does a great job justifying his fall better than the movie does.

For instance, in the film, when Anakin is denied a promotion to Master, he just comes across as whiny, complaining about how unfair it is.

In the novel, Palpatine tells Anakin that the Sith knowledge needed to save Padme is locked away in the Jedi Temple library’s restricted section. Only Jedi Masters are allowed to access that section. That’s why Anakin wants to be made a Master, and that’s why he’s so upset when the council denies him the promotion.

I should read that one of these days. I have heard it adds a lot.

It does indeed! It’s not a 1:1 translation of the film, thats for sure. But the author insists GL read the book and gave him his blessing.

I like it a lot better than the Ep 1 and Ep 2 novels. Haven’t ever read the OG novels. The Ep 2 novel, written by none other than RA Salvatore, is absolute trash. If you’ve ever watched the Ep 2 deleted scenes, you’ll know there’s at least one scene that’s essentially a different take on a scene that is in the movie. For some inexplicable reason, Bob decided to include both the scene that made the cut and the redundant deleted scene that didn’t. It’s confused Jackie Chan meme type stuff.

I always liked the idea (from the novels) that while Luke went on and on to his sister about the good in Dad and his redemption, Leia never really believed it. She wasn't there, after all, and she remembers her father forcing her to watch her homeworld be destroyed and her adopted parents be killed.

Yeah, the Ep 3 novelization is very solid.
