I wonder if the reaction to Last Jedi would have been different if Rian had made the Knives Out movies first. Like, I did a rewatch over the weekend, and I feel like the humour makes more sense to me now having seen 3 Kinives Out movies. That said, I loved TLJ when I saw it originally, so probably it wouldn’t have mattered.

I think the third movie was a bigger issue here. People forget that Empire Strikes Back was pretty controversial at the time, but the third movie stuck the landing.

I think if RoS had built on Last Jedi (Emperor Kylo!) rather than going in its own berserk direction, I think people would have a very different feeling about Last Jedi.
