General video game discussion

Beat I waaaaay back in the day, and managed to beat II on the GBC despite definitely, at that point, being too old for that kind of grind. Still have managed to fail every time getting through III, so I'm hesitant to pick up the HD-2D for it. Especially since I'm still waiting to pick up Ivalice Chronicles

Thinking of buying latest DLC for Stellaris.

Wifes doing impossible mode challenge on BG3. She's faceplanting the ground a lot lol. Made it to lvl 7. Fantasy Vietnam on steroids.

Whenever I'm feeling like sitting at a computer to play a game, which is rare these days, I've got my GoG copy of Master of Magic pulled up
How does it hold up? I’ve always wanted to try it; I’m a big fan of Age of Wonders 1, which I believe was inspired by MoM. However, I find older games pretty user-unfriendly with garbage UI - at least the ones I didn’t play as a lad. I heard there was a remake in the past few years - is that any good?

There are problems with MoM mechanically (the diplomacy sysstem is garbage, and some top end units are just too good) but the biggest problem for people who didn't play it when it came out is the graphics are, to be generous, primitive.

It runs okay enough, but yeah diplomacy is useless and the balance can get really wonky really quickly, and sometimes you'll find a ton of great stuff in your starting area protected by like lone scrub units and sometimes you'll be surrounded by hordes of endgame monsters right out the gate. On the other hand, the magic system is genuinely a lot of fun and the UI is mostly fairly straightforward for all the things you have at your disposal. Having a guide to follow in your early game is helpful though.

Also playing as Halflings is basically a cheat code, you grow so damn fast and an army of decently leveled Slingers are basically world beaters
