General video game discussion

Wonderful game to be addicted to. I rather prefer the B-movie atmosphere in the first of the modern XCOMs, but the gameplay is definitely better in the second. I do miss the MECs, though.
Oh, I still enjoy XCOM, and when I really get the mood for it I'll start with that one. It's just that I know I'll then want to dive into XCOM 2 afterwards, so it's a longer commitment.

My comfort food game is Civilization VI, generally, but every time I come back to it I get fed up with it all the more quickly. I still haven't been able to make any progress in any narrative-focused game since beating Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which I'm sure you've all already played because I told you to, yeah?
I booted up Civilization Revolutions. Youre not playing CivIII though. IV is also fine (ducks).

Have you played SMAC?

But there was a time when you played it semi-regularly?
I played early in its life for maybe 2 years? I never joined a guild or anything like that. I would team up with my brother and the occasional rando but otherwise treated it like a single player game.

For a long time I would resub for new expansions but eventually got disillusioned that the play never matched the promises made by those gorgeous cinematic trailers.

Whenever I'm feeling like sitting at a computer to play a game, which is rare these days, I've got my GoG copy of Master of Magic pulled up

My famings falling off a cliff. PC occasionally, PS5/entire generation kinda sucks.

So basically playingv2 games occasionally and retrogames.

I've been playing Elite Dangerous for a couple of months, and am the same way when it comes to the game's Engineering system. Yes, there's lots to tweak, but it's so much grinding to unlock initially (seriously, at one point I was doing tasks to unlock the engineer who'd let me unlock the engineer who'd give me access to the engineer who provided the modifications I actually wanted), and then to gather the materials required to actually make the modifications. And this is the streamlined, lower-grind version of the system as it was originally introduced!
I did that with Exobio, finally got half a billion credits got bored with the game and got back into WoW, I still play fallout 76 from time to time but my focus has been mostly WoW and because i'm a sucker i'll more than likely get the fallout 4 anniversary edition when it comes out in a couple of weeks

1 more day until Dragon Quest Remake I & II comes out! I played the Game Boy Color versions way back around 2001, and DQ III was my first exposure to the series. I beat I, but never finished II. Now, I'm eager to succeed where I have failed.
