Generator?

Wulf,

Any chance of a PC Generator (ala RedBlade or others) for Grim Tales any time soon? Got a GT demo game coming up in early October ;)!

Is there a "Formfillable" PC-sheet floating around anywhere?

Thanks in advance...

Ahhh, if only. Man I would love a GT character builder and manager. Those things are GOLD.

One of these days I'm going to hire an Excel person and go into business producing them.

I am almost tempted to work on one, but it would end up being a C++ program, and I already have 3 projects ahead of it on my plate for character generators, and none of them will be done quickly since I only have so little time to work on my programs. :(

There was a thread asking about getting GT into the d20 Modern generators operated by RPGObjects, and I have contacted Chris there, but have not yet received a response.

Mmmm, I don't like Metacreator. Their pricing is a bit wonky. Basically you buy their "Engine" for 20 bucks, then pay 15 bucks for each game you want to make characters for, unless you buy ONE game set with the Engine for 25 dollars, and then 15 dollars a game after that.

Now, had it been 20 dollars and the engine came with all the games they support, that would have been a good buy.

Had the engine been 15 dollars and each game template was 5 dollars, that would have been a good buy.

But I play alot of games and alot of people create FREE Excel spreadsheet-based character generators for a good number of those. I'd rather use one of those that may not be as pretty (and many of them are very pretty), but is free. There's a certain point after which good design has to take a back seat to price considerations, especially when there are competing products out there produced by fans for free.

What I'd rather see is a COLLECTION of generators priced from 7-10 dollars, each stand-alone, a la carte, so to speak. That arrangement you'd get four generators for what they're currently charging, at best, for two.

This seems like a good thread to float this out there:

I commissioned an Excel spreadsheet to automate the Creature Creation process from Chapter 13. It's finally finished, and it works great.

It takes you step by step through the creature creation process, adding up CR factors as you go along, and gives you a final CR for the creature at the end.

Is there any interest in this tool, and what would be a reasonable charge for a Creature Creation tool such as this?

I am interested, but would have hoped to get it for free. Like a bonus / free download available on your website...

Heh... ;)

All right, let's assume that "FREE!" is going to be the #1 answer. But moving on from there, what's a fair price?

(I am trying to think of a way to offer the program for free to folks who bought Grim Tales... I could easily do it for sales that I fulfill myself from my site, but it's not so simple to back-fill everyone who already has the book.)
