George RR Martin Fans, rejoice!

I have it on good authority...okay, it's from GRR Martin himself (in an email)... that his Song of Ice and Fire world will be licensed out to an RPG company. Which company, he did not say because negotiations were ongoing. He did say to check his website for updates.

George also added that he did a fair amount of gaming, too.

I am pumped.

Damn you! I thought you were announcing a release date for the next book. :D

Personally, I don't think you could roleplay anything about these stories. Would the PCs be alone, coping with their own "chapters"?

I love the books more than I love food and water, but I can't imagine a good roleplaying adaption.

GRRM's other well-known works, the shared world Wild Cards series, was in fact based on an RPG that he and several of the other original writers played. I can't recall the specific game - I believe it was Superworld or Superhero 2044 or something similar.

And here I thought this post was about his thrid book in the series being on the new arrivals shelf at book stores.

I wonder if there will be a magic system in the game. There are wizards in the world, but none of them are characters in the series.

HEY WHAT ABOUT A NEW BOOK ?!

I dont know if the books would make for a good RPG... at least D&D is going the high magic style which is far from the books...

it would be tough, doc, but keep in mind that martin is a gamer himself....so if anyone would put stipulations on the design to make it more "playable", i think he would.

damn, damn, damn.... I sure hope it is GURPS

(in an email exchange in 2000 he agreed with me that GURPS - which he plays himself - would be the perfect system for his grim&gritty setting...)

Salutations,

Well, wasn't Wild Cards made into a GURPS book?

I suspect this will follow tradition.

Oh well, I would rather have a d20 book/setting.

i have a feeling it'll be GURPS, too. though i'm holding out a dim beacon of hope that it'll be D20 with some majorly reworked magic.

I thought so too!

Not sure about roleplaying in the world. Some places should remain within the realm of fiction.
