Salutations,

Oh, I would not want to run or play in the world, but the potential of looting from the book will be high. I will most likely get it regardless of system, but would prefer d20 for any crunchy pieces.

i would consider running a limited campaign with players of mine that are fans of the book. perhaps on an "off night" (if there is such a thing with 2 kids and a full time job!)

but yes, the mining value is high. if it is by some miracle a D20 project, i'd love to see the magic system.

i have a feeling it'll be GURPS, too. though i'm holding out a dim beacon of hope that it'll be D20 with some majorly reworked magic.

If it were my call, I'd want something with more of a low-fantasy approach, like Pendragon (which is not to say you can't do low fantasy in d20, just that it's harder than in some other systems). GURPS could pull it off, though it would be too mechanical for my tastes.

Yeah, I 'mined' from the series wayyy back when the first paperback was out. I use the bastard names (Snow, Stone, etc.) and the whole concept of the Wall and those who take the black. The campaign was very short-lived, but in a way I'm glad. I wouldn't have done justice to such a good series, not at that point in my GM career.

Grim, gritty and low-magic is all I'm looking for in a campaign setting right now.

KoK comes close, but isn't quite as grim as I would like it to be (I'm looking for more of a WHFRPG feel with less magic). Nothing else that I've looked through is even close, so I'm sticking with KoK for now.

I'm currently reading Martin's first book, and I think that it could become a great setting for people tired of high-magic settings.

In the GRRM RPG would everybody beg to be a sidekick?

Please, don't make me one of the main characters, I am not ready to die yet. I am still recovering from the wisdom and charisma drain after being captured by Vargo Hoat (Material component my body - somatic don't ask) and it took me a month to learn how to walk right!

BTW - I ran a game based off book 1, everyone thought it was striat fantasy until they met Vargo and the MTR. I used the scene in the book with the inkeeps daughter. Jaws hit the table. Never seen players so scared in my life.

Have you looked at Harn? It's gritty and realistic and low-magic. The setting (Harnworld) is non-system-dependent, although they do have their own game system (HarnMaster). There's also a d20 conversion project on the web.

Pendragon also works pretty well on that front, particularly if the PCs are of the knightly classes.
