Witcher.

In seriousness(not really), Blood Hunter.

Steamforged Games would say Watcher (Discount Witcher from their Animal Adventures line. They even got a discount Dog Geralt).

Ranger makes sense too with some features.

Ranger levels.

I would put him in the level 12-15 range no lower than 8-10.
The trick with me is...I don't think Geralt is using the vast majority of the ranger kit, at least not narratively (I am mainly going off the tv show, so perhaps the game is a lot more "rangery".

Most of the naturey ranger spells Geralt doesn't use. The ones he does are much more in line with Eldritch Knight spells like Shield or Burning Hands or thunderwave.

Point. I wouldn't give him lots of ranger level. Some levels.

Yeah so the question for me, what about the ranger are you seeking that you need to get those levels? Skills can be convered by a background or a feat.

Looking at the ranger's general ability list:

1) Deft Explorer: Geralt doesn't seem to be a big linguist, and while he is skilled he doesn't seem to be "Extraordinarily" skilled in a way that isn't covered by just being a higher level character.

2) Roving: Geralt doesn't seem to run particularly fast. He's very nimble (high dex) but I'm not seeing him just free climbing rocks and swimming through water like a fish (which is literally what roving is, the ability to climb and swim as easily as running).

3) Hunter's Lore: So the trick with this is, it can be replicated on the show by just having some monster knowlege lore. REally want Hunter's Lore is, is being able to identify weaknesses for a creature you have never seen and technically know nothing about it...just figureing it out out of thin air.

Geralt just seems to be very studied in a lot of monsters (aka good monster lore skills), but monsters he's never heard of he doesn't suddenly mysteriously know lot of things about them.

More the monster hunter part. Thematically its a ranger.

Favored enemy - adv on wis to track and int to recall info on enemies. Geralt is good at both tracking and recalling stuff about things he hunts.

Primeval awareness - this works like his medallion, "pinging" when monsters are nearby

Fighting style is nice.

Monster hunter gives some nice features like Hunter's sense and Slayer's prey, which are not crucial, but are nice add on.

If you change spell list to arcane one, you can make solid witcher with just ranger.
