Gestalt suggestions

After going through my newly acquired Eberron stuff and loving the setting, I decided to DM after a long time. I spoke with a friend who said he would play and said would bring someone else. Another of my friends said he might play. So the party was supposed to 2 maybe 3 players. I then said you can use the gestalt rules. I thought they could use the extra options gestalt characters provided given they were so few of them. Then I told some other friends about the setting and suddenly they started to jump right in. With my enthusiasm I couldn't say no so I now have 9 gestalt players. I split the group in half.

I played 1 or 2 player preludes with some of them and I must say even at level one these guys are butchers. If they do that stuff with so little people, a party of 4-5 gestalts will be a killing machine.

So here I am, at EN World, asking for powerful gestalt NPC combos. What I need is only a general concept. Something like fighter/wizard gestalt, after that arcane archer/wizard gestalt, far shot is a must have feat is really fine.

What powerful combos can you come up with using gestalt classes and prcs.

and BTW, it is WotC only.

You could just up the CR of the NPCs by 1 or 2. It's probably easier to use Gestalt only for major NPCs.

That is my intention. I am too lazy to type or write so many numbers for all those critters. For the casual swordfight I always use stuff I borrow from someone else. All time I spend on prep goes to writing an adventure (mostly) or prepping the sheet of an important NPC.

I'm starting a gestalt game this evening, my first. So while I can't testify to their strength these are are few of the PCs that will be in the party.

A Paladin/Marshal.
My Swashbuckler/Scout set to become a Dervish/Scout.
A Cleric/Spirit Shamen.
The Arcane Archer setup you already mentioned.

All seem on paper to be formidable people.

Not counting PrC...

I use Gestalt without multiclassing in my game (no PrC either, as an option I would allow one PrC to be used instead of continuing the Gestalt progression, i.e. only one class for those levels then, not two). Makes things a lot more manageable and less complex (also for the players).

A couple that may work well together:

Barbarian/Fighter - Barbarian with crazy feats (actually add fighter to any martial build and you get crazy feats)

Monk/Cleric - Monk with spells (Divine power, ouch)

Monk/Druid - Powerful wildshape fighter

Sorc/bard - Spells, songs, and skills

Wizard/rogue - Spells and skills

Ranger/druid - good synergy

Edit - simlupost with Thanee, some are redundant.

For a slightly more generic list:

Fighter gestalts well with anything. Everyone benefits from having lots of combat feats.

Rogue also gestalts well with anything. Lots of skills=good.
 

And having the same or similar primary abilities also helps.

i.e. Paladin and Sorcerer both benefit from a high Cha, or Wizard and Warmage both take advantage from a high Int.

Other than that, synergies between the classes are good (i.e. the Warlock's Eldritch Blast and the Scout's Skirmish ability), and avoiding overlaps to a certain degree (like Bard|Rogue would not be such a great combination). The Fighter has a special role here, since it synergizes well with any other combat class despite a huge overlap.

Here's some from non-core books:

Warforged Paladin/Artificer, possibly with racial substitution levels. Double up on that charisma (even with the penalty) and become an incredibly effective self-buffer.

Melee class/Spellthief - You can fight, sneak attack, have lots of skills AND cast spells!

Hexblade/Spellthief - Double up on Charisma. Swipe spells from the casters, curse the others. Make him a reoccurring character - your PCs will HATE him.

Favored Soul/Paladin - Double up on Charisma and wisdom.

Favored Soul or Sorcerer/Any Cha based spellcaster. Spells, spells, spells.

As mentioned, Warlock/Scout with Hideous Blow is, well, hideous. If a PC tried it, you might try to house rule it. Warlock with any melee class is a force to be reckoned with.

I'm playing in a gestalt game right now. Currently, our characters consist of...

A Goblin Rogue/Invisible Blade - Swashbuckler/Fighter.
A Half Gold Dragon Wild Elf Ranger - Fighter/Kensai.
A Drow Warlock - Wizard/Loremaster.
A Gnome Bard - Cleric.
An Elf Fighter - Scout/Order of the Bow Initiate.

Right now, the Goblin and the Half Dragon Wild Elf are our melee combat monsters. 30+ damage in a single attack is not uncommon for either of them.

The Drow and the Elf are excellent artillery backup, and the Gnome is the ultimate support character.
