Gestalt Wizard problem.....

I currently don't have a group to play with (a by-product of being in Iraq) so the only outlet I have for my D&D "urges" is character creation. As such, I was working on a Gestalt Wizard, but ran acrossed a problem; the first six levels. I want my Gestalt Wizard to be just that, a Wizard, and as such, am not really sure what to pair it with for the first five levels.

The character is being created in the Realms, and although the class choice is a bit of a stretch, he will later pursue Magelord, Olin Gisir, Archmage, and Elven High Mage.

Yes, I know I have to take two levels in Rogue to qualify for the Magelord, but am still left with no idea with what to do with the remaining four "free" levels. The only other Arcane base classes out there, simply do not fit the concept. I don't want Spellthief, WarMage, Sorceror, or Wu Jen, for severla reasons. I don't need or want the extraspell lists being the primary reason.

What would you, as a DM, offer this character? Would you create a very low requirement PrC for him for these four levels? I am just wondering what I should do/give this character, who really has nothing to take for four more levels.....

Have you considered levels in [Racial] Paragon? That takes away the pressure of being a 'non-wizard' while still giving you the gestalt bonus of two sets of class features. The only problem is that you can't gain spellcasting levels twice in one level for the same class.

I know you don't want other spell-casting classes, but I would suggest the following scheme:

1: Wiz/Rog
2: Wiz/Rog
3: Wiz/Brd
4: Wiz/Race
5: Brd or Wiz/Race
6: Brd or Wiz/Race

Assuming an elven character, you would give you full Wizard spellcasting, 3rd level bard abilities, +2 Int, Weapon Focus in a weapon (longsword or bow would be obvious), double bonuses on Search and Spot checks, longer low-light vision, and better resistance to Enchantments. If you just take minor Divinations and a Cure Light Wounds spell as your bard spells, you'll be able to keep more Wizard slots open for offensive or defensive spells. Not to mention the butt-load of skill points and the extra Reflex saves, and the +1 base attack bonus advantage. The only thing you lose is two levels of familiar abilities and one bonus feat for Wizard.

If you have Races of the Wild, you can take substitute levels at level 1 and 3 for Wizard, giving you an extra learned spell every level, an extra memorized spell at your highest available spell level (so you would be able to memorize 3 instead of 2 3rd-level spells at 6th level). Your familiar bonuses would double, as well, but you would lose the ability to deliver touch spells via your familiar, so YMMV.

On top of all THAT, you incur no XP penalties, as your bard and rogue levels are always within 1 level of each other!
 

Elf? You simply must be a Ranger//Wizard! It's thematic and has strong synergy.

You will eventually get Evasion, too.

A simple, but powerful, build:
Ranger 1-5 // Wizard 1-5
Ranger 6-15 // Incantatrix 1-10
Ranger 16-20 // Archmage 1-5

I kinda like Nifft's rgr/wiz build.

As elves in the Realms are supposed to be the best at Arcane magic (despite the dozens of HUMAN Archmages, and no really well known Elven Archmages... not counting Drow) I don't recognize half of the prestige classes you mentioned... must be in Realms splat books I haven't gotten yet :P Wizard | Warlock is pretty convincing as an Elven Arcanist. Warlock blast for your base dmg effects, spell-like abilities (choose as desired), Detect Magic at will... high Use Magic Device for non-arcane magic items... and then your Wizard spells for Utility... and a few truely effective dmg spells.
 

Both Magelord and Olin Gisir are out of Lost Empires of Faerun. Magelord is kinda like turning your Wizard into a Sorceror. The Olin Gisir is a "secret keeper," a reliquary of lost lore, which fits my character concept.
 

Swashbuckler might work well, or even Favored Soul or Cleric. Personally monk seems rather nice. Better BAB, HP, and melee abilities in addition to the whole monk outlook on knowledge and enlightenment, the problem would be having enough good ability scores to work it. At the least you's need a high Int, Wis, and Dex, and a good Con or Str couldn't hurt.

If you have regular access to the internet, you could try Play-by-Post. :)

Swashbuckler is an underpowered class. It's almost always a bad choice.

Play-by-Post, on the other hand, can be an excellent choice. :)
