Get me up to speed on some classic comics creators.

[Flexor the Mighty!]

Go read his Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman got turned into a goddess. Goofy aliens influenced the Egyptian gods and gave Wonder Woman an invisible jet. Her mom became Wonder Woman. Paradise Island could travel through time. Her mom goes back to WW2 and they retroactively add a golden age Wonder Woman to DC history.

That was some terrrible stuff. It left some damage that the following writers spent all their time trying to correct.

I used to love his Superman stuff, but I think he lost his touch.

When I mean storytelling I mean they way the draws and composes the pages of his comics. He was easily the best at moving a readers attention along and providing the urge to turn that next page and see what happens. In that regard he was so far above most other artists, very few were in his ballpark. He was always the antithisis of the Image guys in my mind. Solid storytelling without unnecessary flash. His Next Men work was fabulous, so I'd say he still had his touch post-Superman. But his highpoint, writing and art, was the Fantastic Four. To me he surpassed even Lee & Kirby on that title. Nobody has ever done Dr Doom as well.

Maybe it's heresy but Wonder Woman blows so many chunks I can't hold it against him if he had trouble making something interesting happen with her. Perez came close but even that wasn't very interesting, I used to get it just for his amazing art.

Simonson: A truly amazing artist. I have all his Thor issues, X-Factor, and some of his FF stuff he did later, after the horror that was Tom DeFalco he made the title interesting to read again. I need to collect some more of his stuff. I wasn't too keen on his making Dr Doom a robot from basically the early Byrne days until his "return" from other dimensions in FF 350. But overall his put the sence of wonder back in the book.

Did Simonson's Starslammers go anywhere? A TPB maybe?

As for Art Adams, I'd just like it if he drew SOMETHING on a regular basis. I wonder if he makes a lot of cash in other areas so he doesn't have a need to do regular comics work.

Byrne's new Doom Patrol was set-up during a short stint on JLA. The storyline was written by Chris Claremont (another creator that lost his touch), and it was titled "The Tenth".

Just had to chime in here... Chris Claremont has definitely NOT lost his touch. His run on Xtreme XMen, and now he's back writing Uncanny Xmen, have both been great imo.

Yeah, he didn't lose his touch, he never had one to lose IMO. Everything he does reads the same. And his dialog is the same. When I read a few issues of his FF I could have sworn it was the X-Men in different costumes. When Sue was agonizing over Reed becoming Dr Doom I knew I had read that exact same angsty overwrought "I'm loosing" him speech in every other Clarimont comic. Just my opinion, I know tons of people love him.

I picked up Doom Patrol #2 yesterday. It wasn't bad. I enjoyed the art but I think he has simplified his style a bit. That may be the inker though, I haven't seen that guys work anywhere else to make a comparison. I'll give it a few issues and see where it goes, I was never much of a Doom Patrol fan in the past, but I'll give Byrne a shot. I still hope, maybe in vain, that he will return to the Four sometime.
