Cross-posted at the Dreamscarred Press forums.
The Introduction: We’ve seen in the past several months that there are a lot of talented authors out there who have great ideas for psionics. We’ve published some of them, and plan to publish more, but there are even more we haven’t published due to financial constraints. We want to give these people the opportunity to be published.
The Deal: We’ve decided to open up a new section of our website, similar to places such as The Third Eye and The Mind’s Eye, where psionic readers can submit their material to be published. This section of our site will be completely free and completely created by fan submissions. Anyone can submit material, so long as it is psionic in nature.
Material will go through a proofing process before it is published on the Dreamscarred Press site. This is to ensure not only the quality of the writing, but that we maintain game balance as much as possible. Due to limited bandwidth by the Dreamscarred Press staff, this proofing process will likely be on the Dreamscarred Press message boards, meaning this content will be available before it’s finished. But it’s already free! So why not?
Any and all material from any Dreamscarred Press release is fair game, including Product Identity, as well as anything designated as Open Game Content in the Expanded Psionics Handbook or Hyperconscious: Explorations in Psionics.
What You Get: Those whose submitted material is chosen for our site will receive credit for one (1) free copy of any PDF in the following series of supplements: High Psionics, Phrenic Creations, Races of the Mind, Untapped Classes. Basically, you can pick anything other than our “big” books (Untapped Potential, Mind Divine, Mind Unveiled, Compilations books, etc.). In addition, any submission that is actually used in one of our published releases will receive payment for that work at one half the normal rate of freelance payment.
What We Get: Obviously, one benefit for us is that we can publish new material without the cost of author fees. While we’re not out to cheat anybody out of money, we have to do what we can afford. In addition, if the material we get is particularly good, we’re likely to use it in one of our full releases… and we’re more likely to work with those authors on paid projects. In addition, this new section of our website (and only that section) will contain advertisements to handle the additional bandwidth costs. We will not be using any sort of pop-up ads, instead utilizing Google AdSense. We’ve gone to great lengths to minimize any sort of advertising exposure, but we need to make sure we can handle any additional bandwidth caused by this new section. Finally, we get a library of material for use with new works - which the author is then compensated for. Seems like a win-win-win - the author wins, the fans win, the publisher wins.
What We Really Want: The concept of Rajrin is still very vague and in need of support. We would love to see some interested parties expand and explore the island of Rajrin. In addition, we would love to see your ideas for new psionic monsters or material dealing with the Nameless Fear from Untapped Potential: New Horizons in Psionics.
In addition, we are interested in any short stories of a psionic nature - so long as they do not violate other publisher's Product Identity.
How to Submit: Material will go through the following process for submission. First, submit your ideas to submissions@dreamscarredpress.com with a subject header of “Website Submission”. Next, submitted material will be initially reviewed by Dreamscarred Press staff to see if it is something we’d like to put through the editing process, or if it is too close to something already in progress. Those submissions selected will then be posted to the Dreamscarred Press forums for review, critique, and editing. Once the submission has gone through sufficient review, it will then be posted to our site.
The Fine Print: Any material submitted for this purpose that is selected to be published by Dreamscarred Press becomes the intellectual property of Dreamscarred Press. All rules-related material will be declared as Open Game Content, but certain aspects of material may be deemed as Product Identity at the sole discretion of Dreamscarred Press. By submitting material, the submitter acknowledges that the material is his or hers to submit and not the intellectual property of a 3rd party, including Open Game Content from other sources, unless specifically documented within the submission. Authors of material chosen to be published in a Dreamscarred Press release will receive payment for their work at half the current freelancer fee (current freelancer fee is $0.01 per word).
