Getting into Art again

Anime Kidd

Explorer
I just got an urge to start drawing again. Last real picture I did was probably a few years ago. I am currently trying to read "How to Draw on the Right Side of the Brain"; supposed to be pretty good so I'm giving it a shot.
I'm a bit rusty and was wondering if there are any other books, sites, etc that can get me a better understanding of various terms, techniques, and such, as well as to improve my skills. I never took any real art classes and so I don't know much of the lingo thrown around on some of the art boards I visit, which I hate not knowing.
The type of style I want to eventually learn is anime like (of course... :p Look at my name!). I have a few of the "How to Draw Manga" books in english and a bit more in Japanese, but they don't really a 'here's how to do it' approach. What other things might be useful? Any advice, suggestions, etc?

My advice would as far as developing a style, is to get an Anatomy book for artists and study it until you know it. Then practice drawing "realistic" characters and see how far your able to stylize the figures without losing the integrity of the anatomy.

Also find materials you enjoy working with. You'd be surprised how much the pencil and paper you use can effect you artwork.

I'm no professional artist but if ya have a scanner you can post your pics and I'd be more than happy to critique em for ya.

If ya need any other help just lemme know!

Later,

:]

P.S. - Here's a small sample of my artwork in this thread http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=79677

If you want to get good, draw from life (or photographs), understand what you're drawing (anatomy), and practice, practice, practice.

Once you've got that down, there are plenty of sites scattered over the Net that will be very helpful. polykarbon is supposed to be good, and just about every long-running webcomic has a 'here's how I draw things' section somewhere. (Not all, tho mine does over three pages; it's very textual, but does give some images.)

Well there is that piece of art on my site of the girl that I drew from a How to Draw Manga book. Took about fours straight hours of tinkering and slowly progressing from one spot ot the next.
Anyways, I do have an anatomy book called "Anatomy for the Artist". A big, thick yellow-ish book. I just forgot to mention it. I haven't looked throuh it in a long time. guess I gotta start reading. :D

For some of my work, it is on my site in the sig. But for a quick link ot it: art page.
