Ghostbusters Costume

Quasqueton

First Post
I've decided to be a Ghostbuster this Halloween. I need to start working on my proton pack and other gear now, so I'm not rushed and harried nearer October.

I've searched the Web for info, I been watching the movie with an eye for detail, and I've started looking around for things around me to use. I've got friends and family who are giving me old electronics for picking apart and finding usable stuff -- cables, wiring, packs, etc. [I have two friends who have a ton of old computer junk that looks like a motherload of usable stuff.]

Has anyone herebuilt Ghostbuster gear or assembled a GB costume? I'm not mechanically skilled, so I'm kind of lost on how to start a proton pack. I'd appreciate any advice, suggestions, and guidance. Even if you haven't done this before, yourself, I'm open to ideas and thoughts if you have some that might help me.

I'd love to have lights and sounds with the pack, but that is beyond my knowledge at this time.

I want this to be as accurate to the "real" stuff as possible. I don't do costumes half-way -- I go as detailed and perfect as I can get.

[Edit: I've got the "night vision" goggles taken care of (not built, yet, but figured out).]

Thanks.

Here are some images of the proton packs I’ve seen on the Web – do you recognize any of the pieces in these? Any ideas on things to use as the parts?

Never specifically done this, but the internet is just loaded with various plans for constructing them. Google on "proton pack plans", or go to wikipedia's section on proton pack props to find lots and lots of options...

I'm thinking of doing the same thing! I was even going to start early (alhough that means ater my exams) and using them for uni dress ups. I'm going to redouble my efforts (although 0*2=0 :p) and start thinking about it.

Or buy coveralls for only $25 (vs. $150) -- for this purpose, 99% of the people won't know the difference.

The uniform is possibly the single easiest part of the costume to acquire.
