Ghostwalk

I'm wondering if anyone here has actually played in or DM'd a Ghostwalk campaign.

It's just that I haven't heard or read much about it anywhere.

Any accounts / impressions / pros and cons?

This product really suffered from the misfortune of being released for 3E at virtually the same time as 3.5E came out. That said, I found that the campaign model used didn't mesh well with any of the campaign worlds I DMed in so both my players and I agreed that we wouldn't use it.

Hi,

I've not run a campaign using it, but have used some of the monsters in my Epic game. I'd also like to hear from anyone that's run a Ghostwalk campaign or just used the "when you die, you become a ghost" rules.

Cheers

Richard

I'm running a campaign now. My players seem to suffer from a "god" complex since you get "two lives" in this campaign. After your first death, you can adventure as a ghost for a while with little adverse affects. Its my first campaign as a DM and I've made about EVERY mistake a new DM can make but my players seem to have fun. Besides, in our group only 3 of really DM. If any one complains I always say they can run the next game. Usually, that shuts people up. :)

That was sorta our point, to take away the fear of death in that setting. It lets you do some crazy things with adventures and as a PC, too.

And good on you for sticking at it and carrying on, we only ever learn from our mistakes. Even the most experienced DM's were once newbies behind the shield! I know I've had campaigns that I cringe recalling the mistakes I made back then! :heh:

Hmm. I should have foreseen that issue cropping up. Even so, sounds like persevering is the way to go.

I'm not at all sure I'll buy the book (it'd be cheaply if at all), but I'm still curious about people's experiences using it (or parts of it).

Actually, your post also reminded me of a friend who said ages ago that their really dead vampire (as in Vampire the Masquerade, post-final-death) was going to 'come back' as a wraith (as in Wraith the Oblivion)...at the time I thought something along the lines of "that'll go badly..." but I'll have to see if I can catch up and ask him how, in fact, it did turn out.

Who knows? Maybe the 'twice-born'-type PC scenario can be OK.

This was one of those niche campaign models that just didn't fit into my campaign. I think a buddy of mine intends to run this as a brief one off, if so I will be playing in it and will post some type of impression on these boards.

I read through it, and while it was interesting enough, it just didn't grab me by the straps or anything. I do not regret purchasing it though, as a matter of fact I am sure that at somepoint I will work it into a game somewhere, but right now there just is no real motivation to do so.

My group is based in Manifest and I just adapted some adventures to string together a campaign. It easily converted to 3.5 with minimal work. One of my players went the way of an uber-turning cleric. He would wade through skeletons and zombies. That doesn't happen anymore. :) Its fun, though. Another character became a ghost hunter who HATES ghosts. Even those in the party. It makes some fun character interactions.

How is the source material in Ghostwalk? Is worth grabbing if you don't plan on making a charcter for this setting? Are the monsters, magic items, etc. worth it?
