Legend
I once had a ranger/rogue with a snail as an animal companion. (I named him Shelldon.) He pretty much just sat there on my PC's shoulder, but my PC was the "sidekick" in a two-person adventuring group and I didn't want to take any D&D spotlight time away from my 10-year-old (at the time) nephew, whose PC was the star of the campaign. (I did teach Shelldon a few tricks: "stay" and "play dead" were two he was exceptionally good at, as well as performing mathematical computations as long as the answer was "zero.")

Okay, I'm asking,

In medieval manuscripts, we have a surprising number of knights fighting giant snails.

How did this great pestilence come to being in your dnd game? Were they a symbol of another creature, or was there really that many giant snails terrorizing the countryside?

Was there an era that was the rise of the Flail snails?

Oh i can just make a guess, this is a symbolic depiction of the knight successfully "conquering" a noble woman with his "Lance" eventually?
Medieval art is full of symbolism, as are fairytales btw.
