Giants in the Earth discussion: Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Carribean

Clearly the leader in the poll, Jack Sparrow is clearly a popuklar character. Discuss what you feel his class, feats, skill, stats, etc. would be in d20 D&D.

Also, feel free to explore other characters from the Pirates of the Carribean series. Jack doesn't exist in a vacuum and sometimes is all about comparisons ("Jack is clearly slightly higher level than....").

For AD&D I'd say he was a very, very high level thief/acrobat. CN or TN.

Norrington is a high level fighter. (9th, easily, given his command position. LN, but then he changes alignment to CN and loses the appropriate level (and everything associated with it).)

Will Turner is another high-level fighter (7th or thereabouts) with an 18 in DEX). NG

Elizabeth Swann is a low-level fighter (2nd-4th level maybe) on her way to (maybe?) being a thief. LG as a commoner but has become NG or CG by the second movie.

Barbossa...hm. Was a high level fighter, became undead (as a revenant) but kept all appropriate abilities of thievery/fighting ability. Same for his crew. LE to begin with. What he is now...? Have to see how the 3rd movie shakes out.

Tia Dalma is HOT. I mean, she's HOT. Okay, wait I can do this. She's a HOT HOT druidess, 7th or 8th level, TN obviously.

Jack Sparrow: Swashy3/Rog3 Dread Pirate with Daring Outlaw feat. And probably every Luck feat you can get. Fortunes Friend would be a nice prestige class as well.

No idea if he'd have that though.

The Freeport: City of Adventure hardcover has a prestige class, Freeport Pirate that features the extraordinary ability 'reckless abandon', which allows a character to add his cha bonus to his ac. It's 3.0 and more than a little cheesy, but for Jack Sparrow, it would explain so much. "You'll always remember today as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow."

Sorry to threadcrash, but I'm drunk and I've got writer's block :]

I'm trying to write a book - fantasy novel, parallel universe. There's a great character. He's a captain of a ship. He's not a pirate, but whenever I try and write ANYTHING about him, Jack Sparrow just pops up in my head and obliterates anything original in him. It's so annoying! Sparrow's so cool he just beats my captain into the ground :(

I suppose you want me to contribute something to the thread? Lots of action points, and a creative way of spending them. That's it. I'll get my coat and leave now...

Alternative cheese (let's say gouda): The "Dashing and Daring" feat from AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures. Requires BAB +4, Dexterity 13+, Charisma 13+. Pretty sure Jack qualifies. It essentially does the same thing as "Reckless Abandon," with two important differences:

First, "Dashing and Daring" only functions if you're not wearing armor. No problem for Jack Sparrow. (Not sure if the Freeport Pirate ability has an armor restriction, so this might not be much of a difference, after all.)

Second, perhaps most importantly, members of the opposite sex find the character somewhat alluring. "Any Charisma based skills or checks made recieve a +2 bonus, but only for those who have seen you in action."

Not only does this provide the Charisma based armor bonus, but gives a nod to Jack's persuasive personality and certainly helps explains why Elizabeth becomes so enamoured with the good captain. (Other than the fact that he's Johnny Depp and that pretty much comes with the territory.)

So what are his stats? What level is he likely to be (assuming a minimum).

I'm not going to commit to any numbers, but certainly a high Charisma and Dexterity score. Probably a slightly above average Constitution and Intelligence. Strength would be average. Wisdom would be his weak spot (dump stat).

As for his level, I'd see him in the 6-10 range.
