In my experience I have found that the stereotypes don't always hold true. My friends who are married and avid gamers don't fit the stereotype he is into role playing and likes characters like bards and is more interested in talking things out then combat.
His wife on the other hand plays hard nose kick in the butt fighter types.
My roommate is a powergamer who likes powerful fighter type characters sure she likes some role playing but she will never be happy with a character that can't kick ass and be very scary.
I on the other hand fit the stereotype. I am big into role playing don't mind playing weaker characters and combat is my second least favorite thing in the game next to dungeon crawls. Hack and slash bores me to death.
