Playing in the Mythical Golden Age is a great idea, but part of Dawnforge's problem is that it had a direct competitor with the same idea -- Morningstar. (I think both of them were originally created for the WotC campaign setting contest and didn't get that far, but had enough good ideas to get published by others anyway.)
If they came out today, during a period with fewer competing settings, they would have done a lot better. If the completely awesome Redhurst: Academy of Magic could get lost in the D20 glut, two competing Mythic Age settings coming out at the same time barely had a chance.
