[Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

The difference is that, when the actual text of the OGL and D20 Trademark License were released, these fears were found to be baseless.

That didn't stop the conspiracy theories though. I've been involved in countless debates about the evils of WotC and the d20 license and OGL, and those debates lasted up until a year ago, when I finally tired of them and just dropped out.

Unfortunately neither the wordings of the licenses nor the precedent set up by WotC matters in those discussion.

Just to be clear the Gleemax TOS have not yet been posted. The Terms of use are the same as they have been on the WOTC site before Gleemax.

ROTFLMAO.

Oh that's brilliant. You mean everyone's getting into a tizzy NOW when these are rules from years ago? Sweet.

It was a pretty common complaint when the OGL and d20 license were revealed.

Ultimately, people should just be aware of what the fine print says and what they're agreeing to when they post stuff to Gleemax. I fully accept that WotC's intention here is not to cackle nefariously while they steal the ideas of naive gamers. They even seem to be trying to construct alternatives so that people can avoid some of these issues. But that doesn't change what the TOS says and it doesn't change what you agree to by using Gleemax.

If you've got no problem with signing over a perpetual and non-revokable license to WotC for your IP, then use Gleemax with a clean conscious. If you do have a problem with that, then don't use Gleemax.

However, I do feel that WotC's TOS is in obvious conflict with the stated goals of Gleemax: It's difficult to be an open forum for gamers when you've put meaningful limitations on just how "open" your forum really is.

But how's that relevant since Rouse's been saying that the Gleemax TOS hasn't been released, and the current TOS is a holdover from WotC boards. You know, the TOS that's been there for years and you've also already agreed to if you ever posted to WotC boards.

If I understood anything.

Some of us NEVER posted on the WoTC boards for precisely that reason and were holding hope that Gleemax would be better perhaps.

At least Rouse has alerted us that these were not in fact the Gleemax ToS so the possibility still exists the actual ToS will be better.

...do people read OP's anymore? ;)

One other aspect of our Terms of Use and Terms of Service that we worked out recently is our stand with respect to user-generated content. Right now our policy is that we own anything that you post to our websites. However, we've decided to modify that policy. Once Gleemax goes live and our new Terms of Use and Terms of Service kick in, you will retain ownership of any content you post (well, any content that you owned in the first place, anyway. And, of course, you are prohibited from violating or infringing the rights of others.). The one thing you do grant to us by posting your content onto our site is the right to use it as we please. So, if you post (for example) an awesome Magic card or a D&D feat that we think is cool, we're allowed to put it into one of our books, card sets, etc.

You can find it here.

Seriously, this is a tizzy about something that is going to happen.

That's a big IF there. I do not post to the WotC boards.

Moreover, if the Gleemax ToS will differ dramatically than the quote in the OP of this thread, I would say that it will do so because these concerns were raised. Had they been raised in reference to the WotC ToS, they might have more equitable ToS today (and I might be a regular poster there as well....you have to take the bad with the good  ).

i'm curious about the 'publisher accounts,' can anyone link me to info about them?
(or explain it a bit in detail here... or point me to where it's been explained already, if that's the case?)
