DM. It no longer stands for "Dungeon Master" as was used commonly in the olden-times. It is simply a two syllable noun and verb. "I am the DM for the game I'm DMing."

The "gaymaster" joke is one of the many events that will cause the knives to come out at our gaming table-- we have a rabid distaste for bad puns, especially those that were played out before any of us started gaming. Since using "GM" or "Gamemaster" or any variation there of is likely to cause such puns to be thrown around, they are forbidden at the gaming table, as some of my players tend to forget that they're supposed to go into the kitchen before fighting.

Especially with knives. My lease specifically describes bloodstains as something that will forfeit my damage deposit.

I voted for GM. However, when actually saying the whole word, I usually say Dungeon Master, (especially when there are people around who aren't roleplayers) because if you slur the words together too much Game Master becomes something WHOLLY different.

Oh, and while we're on that subject...if a non-roleplayer asks you and another roleplaying friend "So, what are you guys doing this weekend?" never, and I mean NEVER say "Oh, we're going to roleplay." Believe me, my friend Travis and I took a lot of crap from our supervisor for that one. *sigh*

Depends on the game.

DM = Dungeon Master. D&D only.

GM = Game Master - Shadowrun, d20 Modern, Spycraft

Friend Computer - Paranoia. :)

I got into the habit of using the more generic GM back when I had no interest in D&D but was looking around at a lot of other games. Referee is one I always thought was kinda silly, as was Storyteller.

I've actually started to migrate unconsciously back to DM somewhat, since d20/D&D is mostly what I play and that's what it's called there, but I really intellectually prefer GM.
