Gnome Tinkerer PrC?

The Souljourner

First Post
I know I saw one somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where. I seem to remember it was pretty mediocre, but I want to take a look for ideas anyway.

I have a neat idea about a gnome tinkerer who is actually a wizard in rules terms, except all his spells are actually inventions in game. Levitate is a personal hover belt, melf's acid arrow is a gun that shoots balls of acid, etc.

There was a feat somewhere that let you activate a wand (staff?) using a spell slot instead of a charge... anyone know where that is and what it was called? I figure most of these devices will be wands in rules terms, but I'd like him to be able to tinker with it in battle and be able to fire it without losing "fuel".

I dont know if its what you meant, but there is a tinker core class in the warcraft rpg...the only problem is that it implies that your campaign would have the technology of warcraft, which is somewhat different than otherwise...guns, s, TANKS... sure its medieval i know lets put TANKS into a medieval game...shudder

There is a Gnome Artificier in Magic of Faerun that operates in the way you describe it. He researches and builds new items (he gets them as bonus items every few levels) which mimic spells. So you could have a crossbow of flamearrow or acid arrow, a wristwatch of burning hands etc. Check it out.

Cheers,

Heh, just had to build one, there is:
-Tinker (Warcraft d20 baseclass)
-Gnome Artificer (Magic of Faerun)
-The Artificer (Mongoose baseclass, rather overpowered in my opinion)
-Techsmith (Faiths and Pantheons, the one I decided on)
-Mechnomancer (Skill system from AEG..maybe)
-"The Quintessential Gnome" has a few PrC's
-Iron Kingdoms might have something
-Some other ones I cant remember...
