We really should have read the signs and portents.

First, we have gnomes getting shafted by having their favored class as Bard in 3.5. This was just a move to make people less likely to play a gnome resulting in an easier exit from the core rules in 4e.

Then there is the subliminal messaging in the art of Dugeonscape of Nebin, the cool iconic gnome, being thrown to his death.

What else was missed?

I was out of town on business for a week. Was it actually confirmed that gnomes are out or is this still speculation?
