Goblin ecology sources...

First Post
I was reading through "Reverse Dungeon" last night and it got me thinking about goblins. I have always liked them and so I wondered, what are some good sources for information about Goblins?

Obviously the various MM's over the years have had entries for them, but what else? What other rulebooks, adventures, etc touch on goblin ecology? Any novels out there devote a lot of pages to these little guys?

Paizo's 'Classic Monsters Revisited' covers Goblins, as well as Bugbears, Gnolls, Hobgoblins, Kobolds, Lizardfolk, Minotaurs, Ogres, Orcs and Trolls. And, from what I hear, it's pretty good.

There are bound to be a few Dragon magazine articles too. Perhaps the Dragondex could help?

Mongoose also put out a Slayer's Guide to Goblins, for 3e.

I thought Paizo's 'Classic Monsters Revisited' was somewhat hit and miss, but the goblin and bugbear sections are both really good.
There's an old Rolemaster Standard System supplement called Races and Cultures: Underground Races, that has really good write ups for goblins and hobgoblins. Of course RM goblins are a little different. They're master trap makers that wear stone shoes to protect and hide their ugly toeless feet.

A company, I beleive it was Mongoose, had a series called the Slayer's guides. Each was a module sized book about a particular critter. I know they did one about Goblins.

Another vote for the wacky Paizo goblins. Aside from their Monsters Revisited, consider checking out the first installment of Rise of the Runelords AP, called Burned Offerings, for a good feel for those goblins.

This is neither here nor there, probably ....... but does anyone else feel that goblins should be Fey?

I could see where they could be counted as fey, but I prefer them as humanoids. They've got ties to the outer planes, after all, via those wiley barghests, and that implies to me that they're not fey (who generally don't trace roots back to the outer planes but to something else more closely tied to the Material Plane). Also, they're too destructive and filthy and prone to ruining their environments to be fey, I think.

That said, I think the role of "goblin" among the fey works quite well when you apply it to gremlins; we've detailed several types of gremlin in Legacy of Fire and Into the Darklands, and I'm using some in a game I just started up in the office in a goblin-like role and they're working out really well so far.
