By the way guys I tweaked a few things on my Unit/Swarm rules and I think I have completely nailed the simplest, quickest possible Mass Combat rules for 5e imaginable.

I have about 10 epic summoning spells in the book and four currently use the new Swarm Unit rules (for groups of 100+), each having its own Unit Stat-Block in the book.

Company of Devils
(12th-level Conjuration spell)

Summons a Unit of 100 Bearded Devils (can be upcast for more powerful Devils).

Orc Army
(12th-level Conjuration Spell)

Summons a Unit of 10,000 Orcs.

Dragon Force
(16th level Conjuration spell)

Summons a Unit of 1000 Adult Dragons (of max. Challenge Rating 17)

Reign of the Iron Golems
(17th-level Conjuration spell)

Summons a Unit of 10,000 Iron Golems to rain down from the sky over a mile diameter area. Direct impact (from a sky-diving Iron Golem) causes 275 (50d10) bludgeoning damage, Dex save to only take 50 (minimum of 50d10) bludgeoning damage from impact shrapnel. Then of course you have an Army of Iron Golems to command.

Converting stat-blocks into Units takes about 1 minute. Its that simple.

Good point.

Maybe 6 books (4 x Cover A, 1 x Cover B, 1 x Cover C) for £90 (save £90).
Yeah, that could work. Basically anything which is books only at 50% will work. Be sure to specify in the reward tier that you will need to verify retailer status before shipping anything--not that that has ever been a problem for us, but it's good to have your bases covered just in case.

As a quick question, what Divine Rank would a party of 5 characters, backed by their armies have to be in order to siege the Iron City of Dis and unseat Aeshma-Deva?

Well in any war the defender probably has a 2:1 or 3:1 advantage, Devils being organised leans toward the latter. That's the first reason Divine Realms don't get invaded that often.

The second reason is allies. So if an Immortal (not of Hell) invaded the realm of an Arch-devil, ALL the Arch-devils would band together to support them. Not to mention other local Hell-resident immortals (Druaga, Hecate etc.) might also pitch in seeking favours down the line.

So realistically you would probably need a party of Greater Gods to unseat one Arch-devil and conquer its Realm...at which point Hell would probably start taking the threat as existential and release fallen Arch-angels like Lucifer, Aeshma-Deva etc. Or using rituals to summon beings which would put up more of a challenge to repel the invaders.

Also you would lose most of your Army in the invasion and thus open yourself up to Counter-Invasions from your enemies who would likely invade YOUR Divine Realm; meaning you'd be facing a war on two fronts - never a good idea.

Added to which you would be largely punching down (Greater God invaders vs. Lesser God Arch-devils) so Hell would be fully justified recruiting some Evil Greater Gods as mercenaries to aid them.

Hell is also likely to strike against your worshipers.

Plus even if you did somehow conquer Hell it would probably corrupt you eventually and turn you to Lawful Evil.

...so its probably not a good idea. :devilish:

Well, I do like to give my players challenges, so thanks for giving me some ideas >: ) teehee

(for context, the party's paladin asked me about launching crusades against the lower planes a couple days ago)

Hopefully everything is going well on your end!

My pleasure amigo.

Killing all the devils is likely just going to make way for something worse to take their place.

Hopefully everything is going well on your end!

In terms of the progress, finishing off Chapter 8 (of 8*) this week (give or take a day). Cut a few illustrations to hopefully sneak in 125 Epic Spells. Had 20 new epic energy types and 10 new epic conditions and I needed a sample spell for each because I didn't have space for a lengthy explanation and example within the main body of text.

*Chapters 6 and 7 still need 2+ weeks work each so no champagne popping just yet.

Physically though a knuckle on my right hand is swollen and sore (unintentionally banged it on a door 6 weeks ago and then again a few days ago on exactly the same place). Doesn't interfere with typing speed at all though, at least not yet, just a bit distracting.
