GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page

Just for fun here is an unofficial Rules Preview build of Frieza I hastily rustled up. If you spot any obvious mistakes let me know. This is a version of the absolute weakest incarnation of Frieza that appears in the show.

I'll likely post some official Preview pages of God Rules in a day or two, until then...

It's HP is over 9000!

Hey @Upper_Krust!

I was wondering what level a spell would need to be to cause an extinction level event (limited to just a planet). Also does it differ depending on the events? For example would a super-plague differ from a mega storm or a mile-wide meteor?

And unrelated, where would you place the Endless from the Sandman comic? Death is obvious, but wondering if you would have Destiny be a bit higher/the rest of the family lower.

Ahoy there GreatestHonor amigo!

I was wondering what level a spell would need to be to cause an extinction level event (limited to just a planet).

To simply destroy all life on a planet you could possibly do it in a bunch of different ways, trying to recall a few spells off top of my head...

Volcano is a Level 16 spell
Land of the Dead is a Level 17 spell, that Animates all the dead in an entire country.
Sink Continent is Level 18
Extinction Asteroid (aptly named) is Level 19
Moonfall is Level 20
Superlaser is Level 21

Note that Gods will get +1 Higher Spell Level Slot per Divine Rank (and some Boons can extend these). So Odin* (Divine Rank 6) can cast a 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th level spell.

*His Alt Wanderer (Mythic Form) at least

Plus with the Overcasting System you can attempt to cast spells several levels above your maximum...at a risk.

Also does it differ depending on the events? For example would a super-plague differ from a mega storm or a mile-wide meteor?

Without going into details, above a certain point the most powerful spell 'factor' (typically the scale) determines the spell level. Therefore if I want to affect a town (lets say) it will be a Level 14 spell. So if I want to blow-up the whole town, animate the whole town, cause the whole town to levitate, planeshift the whole town to Hell its always a Level 14 spell because the scale factor is greater than the effect factor (fireball L3, Animate Dead L2, Levitate L2, Plane Shift L7 etc.)

UNLESS the effect factor (like killing an immortal with no save, Time travel, etc.) is higher than the towns scale factor, the Spell Level is consistent.

And unrelated, where would you place the Endless from the Sandman comic? Death is obvious, but wondering if you would have Destiny be a bit higher/the rest of the family lower.

Death is Challenge Rating 100 in these new Rules, which is Divine Rank 22. Art is already done for Death so he/she/it will show up at some point - likely not this book though.

While I am familiar with Sandman I have never read it nor watched the show - my girlfriend mentioned a few nights ago scrolling through Netflix "Hey you would like this show" - the show being Sandman. I've just never been a huge Gaiman fan - but I might give it a go.

As to the power of the other Endless, maybe Destiny is more powerful, the others less so. Your guess would be better than mine.

God Rules Progress Update: I was unhappy with a lot of the Divine Boons, functional but not exciting enough. So I am in the process of combining about 250 (of the 400+) into each other to have 125 'better' Divine Boons. More interesting flavour text. Something Passive + something Triggered. More interesting Lore.

So 25-30 per tier rather than 41...albeit the sections are now longer.

So far its all going great although, as ever, that's set me back a week or two, hopefully still get the Chapter finished by the end of July. But this chapter will now be awesome to read because virtually every Boon has a few sentences or short paragraph of Lore which are some combination of A. Adventure Hooks. B. Lore Snippet. C. New Bestiary Foreshadowing...and obviously the higher the boon's 'Tier' the crazier those get.

Awesome! Very much looking forward to this.

Theoretically, what Divine Rank would a Immortal have to be to basically declare a target and wipe them from existence so thoroughly that even their name would become impossible to write or remember? I'm trying to scale W.D Gaster from Deltarune to the Epic Rules, and as of the most recent Deltarune chapters, we know that even entering his name on the character creation screen automatically resets the game back to the very beginning. Furthermore, we know that his erasure from reality may be self-inflicted, so would there be a good Immortal template/set-up to represent a creature that has erased itself from existence on an informational level, but is still observing reality through sheer will?

As another question, would you say that Divine Ranks scale exponentially in terms of power/scale, both in the crunch and fluff? I was looking at the Freiza statblock, and at DR 10 he seems to be roughly planetary level, but afaik Dumah, the Angel of Annihilation is only DR 15-ish and is at least galaxy level based on their art, but I might be remembering that wrong. Also, how much damage would a Divine Rank 29 Immortal's full round set of attacks do on average?

Hope you're having a fantastic day!!

Hey Arcanist amigo!

I think this hinges on the technicality of becoming impossible to even write their name.

Your 'basic' erasure from existence type effect is something you are likely to see from Eternals (DR 19-22).

The inability to even 'write their name' might be something more akin to the Lipika (DR 26-28 ish) where you get redacted from 'the story', its a bit more of a 'Meta' thing.

As another question, would you say that Divine Ranks scale exponentially in terms of power/scale, both in the crunch and fluff?

The 'literal power' as opposed to game mechanic power (HP & damage etc) of ranks increase mathematically but its a weird calculation - its a stacked 5th Root of 10 (approx. x1.58). So the jumps are x1.58, x2.5, x3.98, x6.3, x10 etc. But remember each compounds so for instance after those 5 tiers alone we are at approx. x1000, 5 more and we are at 100 billion, 5 more we are at 1 septillion etc.

I was looking at the Freiza statblock, and at DR 10 he seems to be roughly planetary level, but afaik Dumah, the Angel of Annihilation is only DR 15-ish and is at least galaxy level based on their art, but I might be remembering that wrong.

So DR 10 Frieza can destroy a Planet, while Dumah (can't recall his exact tier but its in the 15-17 range) can destroy a Galaxy.

Also, how much damage would a Divine Rank 29 Immortal's full round set of attacks do on average?

Off the top of my head I cannot recall, however, flat damage usually quadruples every dimensional jump (4 Divine Ranks).

But the Divine Boons are just crazy at the high tiers and you could end up with always crit, crit multiplier x10, crit shockwave hits all enemies, crit damage permanent - so flat damage is not going to be the 'big issue'.

...and no the boons are not all Crit based, was just giving a very simple example.

Hope you're having a fantastic day!!

Thanks. Today I am hoping to get all the new 'Form' Boons finished (such as the Neutronium (Form) Neutraliser, Strange (Form) Assimilator etc. As well as my 6 Causality Manipulation Boons (in the Aeonic and Omnific Tiers 6 & 7...of 10)

Since you made Freeza, it would be cool to have at least 3 characters from famous animes like Yuyu Hashuko, Toguro, Raizen, and the Golden Knights of Saint Seiya, renowned animes... wow, I would love it so much and Frieza's work is incredible
