Godliness

hey, I have been wondering for awhile now, how does one go about becoming a god? Does one have to perform a fantastic feat? perhaps and epic quest?
or perhaps simply just attain a level of power far beyond the norm? Is it even possible to become a god? Or is it simply up to the DM? Is there a D&D book that has the answer i desperately seek?

Yes, I think it's called dieties and demigods. Includes a compilation of DnD divines, as well as the requirements. You have to have, amoung other things, a demigod status. If you want to be a demigod, one of the requirements is to have stats at demigod level. Yes, getting power beyond the norm is part of it, but it has to be REALLY high. (we're talking 20+ wishes at least) The DM has to decide (In Campaign it's the gods/godesses)

Hope I could help.

Note that while it is an official WotC book, Deities and Demigods is not a core rulebook. Some DMs use it, others don't. So, what is required to become a god, if such is possible at all, is something you need to ask of the DM of the given campaign.

On a more serious note, there's no prescribed way for a character to become a god. It's entirely and utterly up to the DM, and almost certainly would be woven around an epic plot line.

I ran a plot similar to this in my game (where I'm in the middle of describing the climax in my story hour), where a semi-divine undead tried to become a God by eating the corpse of the previous Goddess of Undeath. The position wouldn't be open to a PC, though. I'm not crazy about the idea of normal mortals ascending to full divinity.

Well, first of all, it IS up to the DM - but then again, so is allowing anything from core feats to oddball prestige classes. Second, there have been a number of takes on it, the newest Deities and Demigods book being the best so far. Gary Gygax about 20 years ago suggested that it involve the character being (a) about 10 levels above the average level of the campaign, (b) a heroic epic quest that would substantially change the game world, and (c) patronage from an existing god. Then, if you succeeded and the DM allowed it, your character became an NPC, and a steady element of the campaign.

I would follow similar guidelines to those, in my opinion.

And yes, cleanliness is good, but it will only get you next to it. ;)
