Gods vs. Gods vs. Gods vs epics

Legend
I don't have DDG (returned it) Faith and Pantheons, Call of Cthulhu, The Epic Level Handbook or the Scarred lands god book, but I have at least seen glimpses of each in stores and know that they each stat out powerful beings ELH doing (Elminster Symbul and Mordenkainen). How do they compare in terms of power?

I know the WotC gods can have annihilating strike but I have heard that the Cthulhoids have squamous blasts and tons of HD, and I'm not sure on the scarred lands stuff.

Anybody with the books care to comment on how they compare now?

I know bastion press has come out with their god pdfs as well but they don't stat the gods, just their avatars, and Ragnorak from Avalanche press has gods as under 20th level, so I didn't count these.

Essentially the Cthulhoid Deities are statted in exactly the same way as Deities & Demigods/Faiths & Pantheons. So all those deities can easily be compared and contrasted.

To balance Deities with Epic Characters add +8 ECL for Divine Rank 0 and an additional +4 ECL for every extra Divine Rank.

ie. Divine Rank 15 = +68 ECL

The Divine & the Defeated only stats Avatars but their powers give a variable boost (I rate Coreans powers at about +25 ECL). With this book you might want to correct the Avatars # of attacks to 4; they let the attacks scale infinitely.

To compare:

Zeus in Deities & Demigods = ECL 153/CR49

Hecatonchiere in the Epic Level Rulebook = ECL 113/CR44

Coreans Avatar in the Divine & the Defeated = ECL 61/CR35

Elminster in the Epic Level Handbook = ECL 39/CR29

Simply put (without the "aid" of artificially assigning CRs to gods..):

Gods will stomp characters, even epic level characters (until they get around level 60+ at least, and that might be pushing it) into a fine, red mist.

This is why I want to use a converted/altered version for Corean and the other gods using D&Dmg as base line. I'd easily make them EL 261 or higher. ;)

Upper Krust, how did you acheive these figures? I know I may be missing something obvious here, but hwat are the ECL/CR relations? I cannot figure it out, I don't have my DMG on me, and wont for several days.

I'd, at the very least, give the gods all the Epic versions of items. He doesn't have a Belt of Giant Str +6, he has a Belf of Epic Giant Str +10 and such. Not Boots of Speed but Glamered Boots of Swiftness (like any self-respecting god would be seen in those).

Their weapons would be using the Epic Intelegent Items rules (at the highest possibility of stuff) with each thing being chosen spicificly for the god in question.

I would also say that Mystra (FR) would simply be able to deny all other characters access to the weave, including their items should they attack her. Something similar could come from all the gods (-30 str penalty to anyone attacking Kord directly, etc.).

I mean, these guys are actually the forces they represent. They have control over those elements of the universe. Why are they simply CR44?

Hi Nightfall mate! :)

I wrote an article on Challenge Ratings for Asgard Magazine #6.

In case you are not familiar with it (?) Asgard Magazine is a free online magazine published by ENWorld. You can download it here:

She isn't allowed to do that - it's against her portfolio.

Ao would pimpslap her :D

Well I'd need a few things from the ELH but most of it I could just make up in my head. It would just be a matter of adding the mix of spells from the PHB, R&R and then the various OGL/Non-OGL feats as well.
