Going from Lawful Good to True Neutral for abandoning a friend?

Generally speaking, no.

But abandoning a friend is a good reason to ask "Is this guy really LG? NG? LN? N?"

Actions speak louder than words. Alignment is not a merit badge. It is a description that should be reasonably predictive of behavior under stress.

However, given that Roy regretted his mistake and proved that through action, and that the manner of his death, I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt.

For all that this is a "family quest", Roy seems more motivated by trying to do the right thing than his personal stake in the outcome.

The thing is, she's not saying that one act would have shifted his alignment. She's saying that if he were the person he would need to be in order to commit that act, then he would have been True Neutral all along and his paperwork would have only ended up on her desk by mistake. She would throw his file in the True Neutral bin, because it had been mis-sorted.

And she would have been right. Because, see, that one act would change the context of all of Roy's earlier insults about Elan. If Roy goes back to save Elan, then he's a grumpy sarcastic guy with a heart of gold who just needs to be prodded sometimes. If Roy doesn't go back to save Elan, then he's a jackass who verbally abused a guy and then abandoned him. The abandonment would "retcon" his previous actions.

As far as not talking about the good he's done, this is obviously only the first comic of the review. Sometimes I wonder how much people expect Rich to cram into 10-12 panels.

Sometimes I wonder if people forget it's a comic at all.

I voted yes in that you are going from LG towards True Neutral with that act, but it would still take more than one act to switch alignments IMHO (although a Paladin may have a harder time).
