Going to GenCon Indy for the first time

Last year my non-gaming wife was so jealous of all the fun myself and my friends had that this year she wanted to go with us. She is in for a good 5 day of people watching, as she isn't really a gamer.

I'm going for the first time. Unfortunately I started late and the only places open are 8 miles away. Is there typically a shuttle? What is the public transportation like? Should I bring my bike?

IF you can you may want to bring your bike, taxi rides just add to the cost. The other thing to do is get on the GenCon site for a room mate finder, the closer to the con, people start looking for replacements.

You can also get on the wait list for housing, rooms come free and they go to the list. The thing about this is you MAY get the call just days before the con.

Given how few times I ever saw a bus on the Indy streets, I'd hazard a guess that public transit isn't going to help very much. And I don't know of any hotels that run shuttles to anywhere except maybe those near the airport taking people to the airport.

My suggestion: drive to Indy if you can, then drive in to town each day and just accept that you're going to have to pay $20 a day to park somewhere near the convention center.

Indianapolis does have public transit: IndyGo buses. That being said, it's probably less hassle to take a taxi or rent a car because, quite frankly, mass transit in Indianapolis SUCKS.

New question!

In terms of getting from the airport to the hotel, eating whilst I'm there, and getting back to the airport, roughly how much money do you think I'll need? I do get breakfast as part of the hotel package, and I'm not going to go crazy on food, so a bit of an idea might be helpful.

Of course, I'll add spending money on top of that. :)
