Gold eating monsters

Zogmo

First Post
I remember the good ol' days when I had the only monster source book practically memorized.
That was when we only had a total of three books. The other two we had totally memorized. Nowadays...whew! :)

So here's my question.

Are there any creatures that eat gold
?

I was just going to make a simple Rust monster variation but I would rather know if some creature has already been created.

Any size or type is fine. I just want to incorporate one into a campaign that will drive my players crazy since they'll think their stashed horde is being stolen bit by bit. A hidden hungry house guest won't even be suspected. :]

Wow, that's awesome.
Even better than I expected but, I'm going to make it a Dire Aurumvorax for a bit more flavor.

Excellent research Echohawk, I'll make sure your on Santa's "Nice" list. ;)

Just wanted to point out that that aurumvorax is 3.0 material. I'm not sure what needs to be done to update it to 3.5.

Also, I have a variant of the gorgon I use called the Aurgon. I change its breath weapon from stone mist to gold mist and any creatures caught in it, need to save or be turned to gold. Naturally the diet of this creature consists of gold and other precious metals, mostly gemstones.

Cool idea!

Nice idea, I can see it now...

The party look at their former comrade, now a 6 foot gold statue.

So guys, we have a choice do we get Bob turned back into flesh and bone again, sell his statue, or melt him down to make him easier to carry... :D

I'm sure some rich merchants would love to have one of those things around... could make a good adventuring hook ;o.

Didn't there used to be a Gold Bug or somesuch, that was a magical bug that looked like a coin, but started eating the other coins if you put it in your pouch? Might have been a FR creature, if I remember correctly...
