Good cleric summoning evil?

I have been reading these forums for quite a while and have finnaly come up with a question I haven't been able to find the answer to. I am playing a lvl 15 cleric/radiant servant who is NG(3.5). We are on a quest to recover the shards of a sword. We found that some of these shards where forged into a sword owned by a man on the astral plane. When we got there we found a devil had killed the man and was pretending to be him. He was wielding the sword we need when our group killed(and banished) him. I am looking for a way to summon him. I of course need his name, which I think I may be able to get. I know about using magic circle and dimensional anchor and all of that. The problem is I can't find a spell that will let me summon him. Is there a cleric spell thats not evil that will work? A member of the group mentioned rituals(I think he ment incantations) but I cannot find much on those. Any ideas for gettin the sword w/out traveling to the 9 hells looking for a minnion of Asmodeus? I would like to avoid this since Asmodeus has put a bounty on the head of one of my companions.... No known way of reliably yanking an unwilling individual from Hell that isn't [Evil] for the Radiant Servant.

Recommend you go through hell killing things and getting XP.

Do you have a wizard in the party? There are the Planar Binding spells. If not, maybe a somebody who can UMD and cast it off a scroll.

we have some psions, a beguiler and a sorceres... can the sorceress cast it if she doesn't know the spell?

Yes. Planar Binding from a scroll has a low save DC and CL though. He may make the will save or the SR check.

thx for the help. I guess we will try it w/ a scroll. And hey, if it doesn't work maybee he will be mad enough to come to us. He is banished from the astral plane and we are on the material plane now. If not, guess we are rackin up on the xp!!!

Ask your DM if you can buy a Runestaff (Magic Item Compendium) or a staff which contains Planar Binding spell. Then, the Sorcerer can use his caster level and Cha bonus.

He should have dropped the sword. Banishing him only removes the body. assuming this was DM Fiat, I'd ask another person to Gate him to you, then disarm him.

The planar binding spells only summon a generic individual of the creature type specified. It can't be used to summon a specific individual of that creature type.

That's not true; under lesser planar binding, it specifically says:

If you wish to call a specific individual, you must use that individual's proper name in casting the spell.

That applies to all the planar binding spells.
