good "default" spell list for a high level wizard

The Bladesinger and Duelist give Int bonus to AC. I think they are slightly different in how they do it. The Bladesinger has a custom spell list.

The Spellsword reduces the Arcane Failure for armor and gives +1 caster level every even level. Having gone as far as you have with Wizard, you are better off with Spellsword than Bladesinger.

If the Monk doesn't already have Bracers of Armor (they should be now), you might want to take Mage Armor until the monk gets the item. If the Monk doesn't have a Wis boost item, either you or the cleric will want to use that instead of Dex boost on the Monk.

A double-empowered enhancer (Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, etc) can give you a higher ability score than an item. It takes a 6th level spell slot, but it is something worth considering.

There are a few spells (Dismissal, Transmute Rock to Mud, Remove Curse, etc) that you will only want to carry on scrolls. They aren't going to be used often enough to be worth while.

Beyond this, you're going to have to wing it or find someone who has taken a spellcaster into epic levels.

Oh well, it's done now. Plus, as I said, I wanted the INT bonus to AC. Since I AM primarily wizard, I'm not going to have a huge reserve of hit points. It makes things a lot easier if they can't hit me to begin with. Plus I don't have to worry about being hit while casting and losing my spell (as much anyways).

That's what I've done with the scrolls. Rock to mud, mud to rock, et al have been put on scrolls in case they're needed at some point.

That's what I hoped to do here. Find someone who had played a wizard to epic levels, or at least HIGH level.
 


Okay. I have my character here. Here's the spells I consider indespensable:
0: Detect Magic, Light
1: Magic Missile, Message (with Greater Scrying, you can talk to anyone, anywhere), Shield (I Persist it)
2: Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Endurance: Your companions will love you
3: Fireball, Fly, Haste, Lightning Bolt
4: Dimension Door, Polymorph Other, Stoneskin (less so at very high levels), Explosive Cascade
5: Energy Buffer (I Maximize it now), Rary's Telepathic Bond, Teleport (or variants)
6: Disintegrate (deals with Wall of Force among other things), Greater Dispelling, Mass Haste (possibly the best spell ever for it's level), True Seeing
7: Delayed Blast Fireball (more damage! Higher save DC!), Greater Scrying, Spell Turning
8: Maze, Polymorph Any Object
9: Gate, Mordenkainen's Disjunction, Time Stop

I make sure to have at least one of all these every day, usually more than one. I hope the list helps you.

Do you have any problems with people dying to a Greater Dispelling or MD?

I've avoided ever using Endurance because the hit points go away when the spell is dispelled. Seems like quite the risk if you're hurt and in battle when the Dispel happens.
 

At a suggestion I received, I've decided to make up multiple default lists, depending on what we're expecting ahead of us for the day. something like this:

Travelling - spells most useful for travelling and maybe the occasional wilderness encounter
Cities - spells more useful in a city or social type situation
Dungeons - Dungeon crawls, duh
Frequent Combat - For when you're expecting lots of skirmish type encounters against less powerful foes
Heavy Combat - For those major boss-type foes where you really need the heavy firepower.

Any other specialized lists I might be missing? Certain spells that are MUST haves in those lists?
