Good Drow

I think I have been misunderstood here.

Personally I do not like Good Drow either.

I was interested in exploring other Drow cultures, other than the Lloth worshipping matriarchal one known to all. That would/could be matriarchal society worshipping dieties other than Lloth or a patriarchal society.

As I said, Good Drow make me sick also, if you want a Good Drow be a "normal" elf. Just wanted to explore Drows of other types, like CN ones also.

Never said that the plan was for player characters. Just thought the idea of a city of Good Drow under attack from everyone might be an adventrue idea for surface dwellers or a neat idea for a party of evil/CN type Drow characters.

There is a Forgotten Realms suplement "lords of darkness". In it they profile other Drow that don't worship Lloth. They are still evil, but don't like Lloth.

So, if someone plays a Drow, they're a Drizzt wanna be?

Is a CN Necromancer (wizard style) / Shadow Adept a Drizzt wanna be?

First of all I have not bought a copy of Dragon since probably 1993.

I did however, buy the Fiend Folio and Unearthed Arcana back when they came out and I know for a fact that there were NO good Drow to begin with.

Did said issue of Dragon magazine (#298 I believe) come out BEFORE or AFTER Mr RA Salvatore's Drizzt character? AFTER!

Therefore those "good and otherwise" drow articles are there purely to assuage the Drizzt wannabes who have no imagination and simply cannot fathom the idea of not playing Drizzt.

no not to begin with, but the starting alignments for the Cavalier had to be good (they could change at 4th lvl with no penalties) ... and rangers had to be good as well. (which means if you wanted a drow ranger or cavalier you had to be good long before drizz't make an appearance ... well okay, I'm not sure if it was that long)

back to the topic, I think if you want non-evil (or at least non-kill you now) drow make them a group of opportunistic and greedy nomads/merchants on the outskirts of regular drow society.

I didn't know such a thing existed outside of a series of questionable novels and the related setting? ;)

I wouldn't allow a drow in my game, they are pretty much evil to the core. But then again I haven't used drow yet, and have no plans to do so in the future.

Ghoti: The city of good drow you mention might be the Temple of Eilistrae beneath Waterdeep in FR. It's near Skullport. It has been detailed in some Dragon Magazine articles, and mentioned in others ("Skullport," I think).

In addition to the temple, there are other outcast drow and other races living there.

No, as I clearly said if they play "the one good Drow that threw off the teachings of Lloth and moved to the surface to fight for good" (or words to that effect) they are a Drizzt wannabe.

I was referring to the interest in "other than evil Drow" which to me defeats the purpose...
