Hawk the Slayer is my favorite fantasy film mostly for the elvish archer :)

:D I have a soft spot for this film too. Crowe was pretty cool wasnt he. And we had the first fantasy Dwarf in a live-action film too I think.

As far as good fantasy movies goes, Rob Roy was a movie that suffered because of its release so close to Braveheart. Excellent movie about maintaining your honor in the face of horrible odds, and I still say its climactic swordfight is the best ever put on film.

Close. But I'm still a big fan of the climactic duel in The Mark of Zorro, with Basil Rathbone and Douglas Fairbanks jr. Colossal!

Ahh, yes, but the duel of swords between Inigo and The Man in Black aka Westley. Or the duel of wills between Vezzini and The Man in Black. The latter has always been a favorite of mine.

Perhaps another good film that is related to fantasy, rather futuristic of sorts, is Bladerunner. That's another favorite of mine, with Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer...the special efx in that film were excellent. But that's just me, eh?

-Seraphic Muse-

Seraphic_Muse, that's more of a d20 modern ciematic fantasy campaign than a D&D medieval fantasy campaign :) And if you liked Bladerunner, you will probably like Minority Report (same author).

Princess Mononoke was a really cool fantasy anime, suprised no one has mentioned it yet.

The Dark Crystal was pretty good, despite the muppets.

My vote for best fantasy movie ever, by far, is Lord of the Rings. No other fantasy movie comes close, IMHO.

I've never really been able to understand why people dislike A Knight's Tale, even though I read all of the reasons people posted on the boards about it back when it came out.
The music was a huge turn-off because it snapped my suspension of disbelief. You do not use anacronistic music in period films for any reason that can't be substaniated by the plot. Using the European tournament circuit as a stand-in for any other Jock-Gets-Girl film doesn't count. This doesn't account for all of the craptacular product placements, which are horrible in their own right.
Its trailers certainly were not misleading; you could easily tell what kind of take it had on medieval times. It didn't take them seriously, just used the conventions to tell a rousing story. The tagline (from IMDb) was "He Will Rock You," for pete's sake.
This is because the film used a howitzer to kill a fly when a simple rolled-up newspaper would've been far better. Instead of using the tournament, they would've done just fine using contemporary sports as the backdrop. AKT would've been (and has been) better done as a racing film.
