Good Lesser Planar Ally for a Vampire?

What's a good creature for a Vampire to summon with a Lesser Planar Ally spell? It's a subterranean adventure and I'm looking for something that a vampire would be inclined to summon...

Hmm, maybe a Nightmare or perhaps a Fiendish Rust Monster?

Succubi - can serve as an ambassador (polymorph + super-high Cha), as a patroller (detect thoughts, detect good, and use greater teleport at will), as a catcher (using Charm Monster & Suggestion to bring the master or mistress new toys), might be able to bring in some serious muscle in the form of a vrock, and beyond the vrock can do astonishingly little to a vampire, should the little snot turn traitor.

Think of creatures that would be rather unpleasant for the living to face, but not a remote threat to an undead creature (like assorted poisonous creatures).

Also, remember that creatures can be compelled to serve with a bum deal; they just get a +6 on the opposed Charisma check, at best. A vamp wizard that preps appropriately (Eagle's Splendor, Circlet of Persuasion) should be able to stomp some of the dumb muscle types (like Bearded Devils) on the opposed roll. Wizards that want to meddle with Planar Binding should have decent Charisma scores.

Silly me; I've got that very thread bookmarked. Where's the half-troll from? I'm creating a half-dragon manticore as we speak and it looks pretty good so far...

I considered a Succubus, but more for company than anything else. The P wouldn't be fooled by her though and she's useless in battle. The Nightmare could prove interesting in terms of mobility (i.e. etherealness).

The vampire has a 21 Cha, so negotiating a good deal isn't really an issue.

Don't underestimate Suggestions to "Sit Down and Shut Up."

If the vamp's really good, there's no reason why he can't have multiple creatures in his service.

It's perhaps sad for a lonely undead, but these uses for Succubi would have been the least interesting ;)

The encounter is underground so I'm not worried about sunlight (other than from spells). The vampire only gets one use of Lesser Planar Ally (it's a special ability) so multiple creatures are out. Plus the fact that this guy is death-incarnate; I just want something else to draw off some of the P's attacks.

I'm almost done and now I've got a Fiendish Half-Dragon Manticore. He's actually pretty cool and I've got plans to make him a powerful devil who mercs out his services to whoever pays him. This form is the weakest avatar he sends to the Prime (i.e. a shadow of his true power). I have plans to make versions for the other Planar Ally spells by advancing its stats. Thus, the P can fight him several times at different power levels. The devil doesn't care if his form on the Prime is slain b/c it's just an avatar. As long as he gets paid, success or failure!

I thought about equipping him with a couple magic items but the guy's a beast so I can't really think of anything appropriate...

Half-troll is from the excellent Fiend Folio

Not to be annoying, but with the rules as written you can't use planar ally to summon a fiendish half-dragon manticore. You could use it to summon a draconic half-fiend manticore, cos it's an outsider, but the creature you're suggesting isn't.
