Good norse campaign setting? Old or New?

Shameless plug: My first RPG book, Vikings D20: Midgard will be released as a PDF in a month or two. The crunchy bits are in the final stages of playtesting, and I'm making good progress on the fluffy bits.

Hmm, it'll be interesting to see how your upcoming book and my upcoming book compare....

Viking Age is a large sourcebook like Avalanche's Celtic age. over 200 pages of real good stuff. Unfortunatley it still had a cheescake cover. But other than that it is the best viking supplement I have seen.

"Ragnarok! Tales of the Norse Gods". is indeed one of the shorter ones. I didn't like either of the short ones, although YMMV. It started with the covers, and then the stuff inside was far to brief.

I did buy Avalanches Celtic Age though and loved it, finding it to have the breadth and depth that Avalanche's shorter products lacked. Then came Viking age, which was similar to Celtic Age in quality and content. It is awesome. A very realistic take on vikings mind you.

Vikings have shown to be very popular for RPGs...

Ultima Thule: Mystic Scandinavia for Ars Magica

GURPS Vikings by Steve Jackson Games

Campaign Classics : Vikings by ICE for Rolemaster

Vikings by Avalon Hill for Runequest

Land of Giants for Pendragon

HR1 Vikings Campaign Sourcebook for 2nd Edition AD&D

Ivinia for Harnworld

Frost & Fur for 3e by Monkey God Enterprises (while not a Norse campaign specifically Frost & Fur does contain quite classes/spells/equipment etc specifically aimed at quasi scandinavian cultures).

Good list! The Gurps book (as is normally the case with Gurps sourcebooks) has a lot of material that can be used with any set of rules. I would also recomend Frost and Fur, which does have quite a bit of Norse info, and more general crunch for those cold norther climates.

I would not recomend the TSRs HR1, it was an another sign that TSR was far down the wrong road

You could take a look at Wayfarer's Song and see if it floats your boat. It's set in the world the Norse made myths about, rather than the world they lived in. It's one of the few fantasy settings that grabs me. Free PDFs. Not D20.

GAZ7: The Northern Reaches. You can get the pdf download at RPGNOW.com

On the OD&D Guild mailing list, someone has recently noted that the GAZ7 ESD from SVGames lacks a portion of the map. Not sure if that owuld be the case at RPGNow, but I would imagine so.

If all you want is the flavor, that might not make a difference.
