good PrC for a psion

I'm having a hard time finding a good PrC for my psion. As of now I'm considering Thrallherd and Psion Uncarnate. Has anyone ever played either of these, and what did you think of them? Are there any other good PrC's for psions that I should consider?

The Uncarnate has good flavour but is ridiculously weak. The Thrallherd is less weak, but still weak. The problem in both cases lies in the fact that loses manifesting levels is a major hit, unless you gain something substantial like the full BAB of the Illithid Slayer (for which you trade only 1 ML). You probably might as well go straight Psion unless you have a concept-specific PrC or want to do some Cerebromancy.

Check out the Mind's Eye series of articles on the Wizards site. It has lots of additional, official WotC psionic PrCs. One I'd like to try is the constructor, a ten-level psion PrC that specializes in astral construct; it only loses two manifester levels.

I agree with you guys on the Uncarnate, cool powers but not worth giving up 4 levels for. But why don't you guys think that the Thrallherd is good? At 20th level I will have access to about 200 followers, several of which will be high enough level to help out on adventures, as well as another Thrallherd who is only 2 levels lower than me. Isn't having the services of an 18th level character worth giving up 2 levels for?

Just take the Leadership feat and get basically the same stuff without the added detriment of everyone else trying to kill you for taking away their loved ones with mind control.

Good point. I didn't realize that Leadership does basically the exact same thing. So it seems that there are really no good psionic PrC's worth taking. Wow, talk about no love for psionics.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I got a lot of good ideas on which direction I want to steer my character in.

If you have your DM fix the Metamind PrC, that is an option, especially for an Egoist who likes to change himself and fight in melee. My suggestion for Metamind is to add "+1 level of existing manifesting class" back in for all levels expect level one.

That means that a:

Psion 15 with Int 20 has 8th level powers and 232 PP

Psion 5 / Metamind 10 with Int 20 has 7th level powers and max (with crystals) 249 PP plus 140 extra max PP (without feats) for one minute per day

as opposed to the core rules of:

Psion 5 / Metamind 10 with Int 20 has 5th level powers and max (with crystals) 157 PP plus 100 extra max PP (without feats) for one minute per day

As written, the Metamind is never worth taking since he has fewer PP (and fewer powers) than a regular Psion except at Metamind 10 where he could actually manifest about 25 extra PP in a day. This is not worth 5 manifesting levels.

With this adjustment, he is a worthwhile PrC since he gives up a single manifesting level in order to eventually have PP to burn. Although his PP is actually slightly lower at Psion 5 / Metamind 1, he actually catches up with this house rule by Psion 5 / Metamind 5 and Font of Power really gives him the PP edge at Metamind 10.

The key word is "basically". The important difference is that there are not penalties to the Leadership score: you have your own cool sect of mindwashed minions. You can command your Believers to do all kind of degrading or disgusting works; you can use them as trap detectors, not pay them, not feed them, call them things, and they´ll still come and love you. Your thralls will still come even if they die by the dozen, or you don´t give them a treasure share, or have Charles Manson´s reputation. And their maximum level is 1 higher than normal cohorts.

Are you taking into account the Metamind's Free Manifesting allows one to augment higher than a normal Psion can? It's an important intangible of the class. Not that the Metamind is good as is, it sucks. But maybe 9 manifester levels is a bit much.

CPsi has the Anarchic Initiate PrC, which is almost too good not to take.
