good published adventure for a one-off adventure?

I'm going to be running a one-off adventure to introduce a group of about 4-6 people to 4th edition. Most of them have at least some experience with previous versions of D&D, though none have played 4e more than once or twice.

What would you recommend as a good published adventure (whether free online or available for purchase) that we'd be able to finish in one afternoon/evening?

In one evening? Not much. You are better off making one yourself*. That being said I can recommend both Scourge of The Rat-Men and Sellswords of Punjar. They are both good dungeon crawls but will require at least two sessions each.

* Luckily this is really easy. Start off with a skill challenge from DMG, trek to site, and have a few combat encounters.

The little kobold adventure at the back of the DMG isn't the most groundbreaking material, but it works well for introducing new players to the new combat style of 4E.

I'll second Sellswords of Punjar, too. Cut the HPs in half to speed up play.

I wasn't a member at the time, but my understanding is the RPGA produced a ton of one-shot adventures before they went to the Living Campaign model. It would be great to see those republished.
