Good rogue prestige classes

ARG

well, I was half asleep when I wrote it, and I didn't edit for spelling...
Heheh, no more cracks on my misspelling because I'm changing it.

What I would like to see is a Rogue/Wizard PrC that is more Rogue than Wizard. They dabble in magic, but are mostly Rogue.

Give it +1 spell caster / 2 levels. The spells are intended to supplement their rogue abilities, not take over for them. At half progression rate, they aren't going to be any competition to a regular mage.

Give them the d6 hp and 3/4 BAB. They already hurt their combat abilities enough if you require at least 3 levels of spell casting to qualify.

Now try to balance it. That is the tricky bit.

The thing is that it is really a weakness of the current multiclassing rules (dabbling in spellcasting just isn't effective) more than anything.

Similar to the Assassin?

Or the Temple Raider of Olidammara.

P.S. As a halfway related note... don't you agree, that Monica Belucci (Sylvia IIRC) was a really, really cool Rogue/Spymaster in Brotherhood of the Wolves (Les pacte de loups)!? :)

One thing that's always kept me away from picking up prestige classes with rogues is that I love the special abilities they start getting at level 10, giving up improved evasion and such can be tough. That said, one of the prestige classes not mentioned that I love is the Herald, from the Dragon Annual. You take a hit in skill points (down to 4, no Disable Device, iirc) but you pick up some amazing spells and cool social-based special abilities (and sneak attack progression).

No.

Assassin's have a different spell list. That is always inferiour to +1 caster level because you've started over for caster level and you can't get the spells you have already been using.

Critical spells in my opinion include: all

abjurations, True Strike, See Invisible, Locate Object, Levitate.

Temple Raider gets Divine spells from a special spell list. It it an interesting class, but if I were looking to multiclass cleric/rogue I would also like a class that is likewise 1/2 level spell progression and maintains as much rogue as possible.

Giving up those hasn't ever been hard for me. Evasion is enough, and usually my rogues aren't up close and personal, so oppurtunist doesn't really help that much.:D
