Good Shaman class?

There's a shaman in Oriental Adventures that was pretty neat, if I recall correctly.

And it's been updated to 3.5 in Dragon #318 – they now get an unarmed strike damage progression and a few other bits.

Of the variants mentioned, if the Spirit Shaman doesn't work for you (like stated in the original post *coff*), this is really the best variant AFAIAC.

If you are looking for the MMORPG feel, the shaman priest variant from WoW RPG might be a better fit, though that's a lot to buy just for one class.

There is the Everquest RPG PH by White Wolf/Sword Sorcery Studios which has a d20 shaman class. It uses a mana point system based on attribute bonus x level and maintaining a certain number of active slots that can be switched rapidly.

Looks like a fairly workable class to insert into normal D&D.

I've used the OA shaman quite successfully. Far better than the Spirit Shaman, which is very underpowered if "spirits" aren't common in the campaign (and when are they ever?).

Is spellcasting a requirement? If not, check out the Spirit Binders in my sig... might be what you're looking for. :)

I really enjoy the OA Shaman - it's a fun alternative to the cleric, though I allow my Shamans to utliize the Spirit Shaman's chastize spirits ability when they burn a turn attempt, instead of turning or rebuking undead.

Definitely my choice. Much better, imo, than the Spirit Shaman. Then again the whole Shaman's Handbook is dedicated to the Shaman class and things related to it which is an approach that I prefer to the way WOTC introduces new classes.
