Oh man, I would have LOVED that like 20 years ago.

But I guess if you're going to do ONE movie based on the books, this is probably the best way to do it. Personally, I feel like it should have been a TV series, each book one episode. Assuming it hasn't already been done, I wouldn't have any idea if it had been already.

Might be watchable, the effects on the Abominable Snowman looked acceptable.

Sadly a story element reliant on the kid's age falls flat with the Dawson casting. Could have made a joke about the economy, but no, have they guy with the 2 pack a day voice claim he's not 18. EDIT: I know it's easier to use Dawson Casting, just don't call attention to it.
